Kamel Idris .. The challenges of the moment and the variables of politics – the face of truth – ✍️ Ibrahim Shaqlawi

In the light of the quarter -work in Sudan after years of war, the appointment of Dr. Kamel Al -tayeb Idris as Prime Minister to form a central moment on the path of political transition. This step, in addition to being a step towards administrative stability, is a real bet on a person capable of speaking inside and outside, and to direct a sensitive step which requires a balance between popular aspirations and regional and international political and security changes.
Sudan is suffering today from several challenges, including the restoration of stability, the reconstruction of public institutions and the transgress of political fragmentation. In this context, Idris is considered an option that carries a consensual symbolism and a step towards resetting the transition phase. Yesterday, the team published the first corner of Abdel -Fattah Al -Burhan, president of the sovereign council, a constitutional decree naming him as Prime Minister, in a decision which is the first official appointment of the post since the transitional path fell and reflected an important change in the management of the scene.
The time of this appointment is not without important connotations, because it coincides with a state of institutional emptiness and the climbing of war by adopting the model of strategic steps, which pays it inside and outside. It seems that the academic and professional dossier of Idris and vast international relations earn him a relative capacity to move among the complexities of the scene. However, external support is not enough to overcome crises, because the success of this task requires a real national consensus in form and content; Our country most needs stability and restoration of security and peace.
The reconstruction of Sudan does not stop during the definition of individual efficiency, whatever its position, but rather requires a complete political consensus, and a clear specifically for the structures of the transition power, and a common desire to overcome quotas and political tensions. The fundamental question here is not only linked to the Idris, but to the extent of the powers which will be granted to it and to its capacity to direct a scene characterized by a fragility, intersections and local and international interventions.
As Mahathir Muhammad said: “The greatest battle that the state is fighting after the war is not with the enemy, but with the self: saving its institutions, restoring the confidence of its people and making peace with justice.” This is exactly what Sudan needs right now; A battle with the political self, which overwhelmed the state and weakened its national project.
This appointment cannot be isolated from the movements that take place in the region, whether at the level of American and Egyptian communications that take place these days, or the deliberations of the Security Council and the Jeddah forum. The presence of an internationally acceptable character, like Idris, can help reduce international pressure on Sudan and open windows for dialogue. However, success here does not come unless it is linked to a real internal incubator, and a government program based on an economic and security vision can be implemented, as well as the reconstruction, then the pension of people, not only temporary establishments or theoretical promises. Sudanese are no longer reliable.
The experience of the political transition in Sudan since 2019 has proven that the formal consensus does not make stability. What is necessary today is a fundamental project that redefines the nature of the scene, clearly draws the functions of the transitional authority and establishes a democratic path based on justice and the rule of law, not on satisfaction. This requires a sincere political will and collectively, that time no longer allows the joke and that the age of the transition (1180 days) must be taken seriously, according to the modified constitutional document of 2025, which is supposed to establish a new stage of good governance and sustainable development.
Although Dr. Idris does not belong to any political party, its political neutrality can be a significant acceptance factor and probably, if it has real support from political, societal and media forces. But the absence of this support, or the continuous conflict on the idea of establishing the current step, can make its mission impossible. The balance with the military will be decisive, as well as the ability to manage relations with political forces.
From the point of view of the face of the truth, we must realize that Idris will not provide a magic solution, but we rather await that it improves the management of this historic moment. Its success depends on the extent of its ability to convert this appointment into a complete national opportunity, not in response to circumstantial pressure. And if the political elites realize that the real battle is not with the adversaries, but with the self that disturbed the national project, Sudan can attend a new start. But if the errors of the past are repeated, this stage will only be an echo in a renewed political void, and it will then be difficult to restore security and cherish peace.
You are fine and well.
