Felothy .. The icon of tolerance and loyalty – the face of truth – ✍️ Ibrahim Shaqlawi

During the march of the modern Sudanese state, a religious or political figure ranked which exceeded the limits of the ecclesiastical institution to become a complete national conscience, just like the Faraj feltocos, the priest of the Church of the two martyrs in Khartoum, the thinker, the peace ambassador and the former parliamentarian. His presence in public affairs comes from a personal charisma which distinguished him among the sons of his generation alongside his religious position, because man represented the reflection of a deep understanding of the sense of citizenship as a value which goes beyond the sect and entered the political and social spaces with the spirit of the University of people not as a whole.

In 2016, during the administrative referendum on the political situation of Darfur, I met Dr “Maqha Joseph” during a press conference, which is one of the activists of civil society organizations and vice-president of the Sudanese National Union of Young. She assured me that Father Filothy was one of the most eminent supporters of the participation of young Copts in public life and the follow -up of the referendum, through national organizations which participated under the banner of Sudan, not the sect or religion, but for the stability of the country. He ordered them to work on health, awareness and social programs, then in monitoring the referendum in the field, at a time when many hesitated to play this sensitive national role.

The presence of Sudanese Copts in Darfur and in other regions has extended for more than seventy years, and it has been rooted and interacting with the fabric of the local community by trade and social relations. Feltoos embodied this living interaction, as he represented in his life a model of openness between spiritual affiliation and effective commitment to public affairs.

The Reverend Felothy Faraj was born in 1944 and he obtained a doctorate in philosophy from the University of Cairo, branch of Khartoum. Among his most important books: “Al -jamaa al -asafawi” and “personal elimination of Copts”. He died on May 24, 2025 at the age of 81.

The State officially called its death, and most of the Sudanese parties participated in the funeral ceremonies, including the National Congress and the Popular Congress, stressing its role in supporting national cohesion and the promotion of social cohesion. The council of sovereignty as a man who served Sudan with dedication, left a heritage of gifts, tolerance and love, but rather described it as a “symbol of coexistence”.

The history of Copts in Sudan is full of donations in the fields of education, health, economics and the public service, but what characterized FEX of Felothy, is to use this heritage in the construction of the present, by empowering young people and serving community dialogue. He believed that peace is not only a political agreement, but a daily practice of accepting the other, which is the philosophy that he really implemented thanks to his activities in Sudanese and diaspora.

In our current climate, responsible for tensions, the importance of universal national symbols is highlighted. They represent only legal personalities, but rather play a central role in maintaining national identity and unifying vision. As the philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau said: “The homeland is not only the land, but also the common will which unites us.”

In this sense, Feeothaus formed the embodiment of this Sudanese will which exceeded the religious and ethnic separators, and made the unity of destiny a slogan and a practice. He left a number of books and publications that influenced the Sudanese library.

Consequently, the absence of such characters without restoring their inheritance in the consciousness of generations, it is judged at a big void. The countries are not built with systems and policies alone, but rather the symbols which are granted to politics with their moral dimension, and give the homeland its full meaning. This is what the tolerance of the shirt did; As a idea of ​​the common homeland, as a reality must be protected and work for it.

In this context, it is necessary that the generation of young people is inspired today by these models which combine faith and national action, between belief and justice, between private life and openness. The homeland needs someone to look like it: anyone who improves listening does not differentiate itself, built bridges, not barricades.

Consequently, according to what we see from the face of the truth, despite the departure of Father Felothy, his voice is always present in the memory of the place, geography and history. Respect, appreciation and loyalty. There is no peace without justice or a homeland without symbols. Felothy has left, but his soul will remain a tag that guides generations for national unity and the societal consciousness of the importance of peaceful coexistence.

He has pity, may God bless his steps and reward him with what has been presented, and the consolation of his family and loved ones, and to inspire our country with patience and walk in his footsteps.
