The Forum of Interest and the Nile Basin – The Face of Truth – ✍️ Ibrahim Shaqlawi

In a regional context in which the challenges associated with the management of water resources and climate change increase, the activities of the third regional forum for owners of innovative interest, held in Nairobi, Kenya, are organized by the technical office of the Oriental Nile basin (ENTR). This vital event is entitled “Cooperation in the Nile basin for adaptation to climate change (NCCR), to establish a deeper and more effective path in the dialogue between the different components of the political, social and media fabric of the countries of the Eastern Nile basin.
This forum represents a strategic opportunity to redefine regional cooperation executives, in the light of the increase in water tensions and the evolution of climatic contexts which impose on the countries of the basin by the way traditional positions in favor of more innovative models in joint work. Sudan should participate, as well as other countries in the basin, in this event, as one of the pivotal actors in the Nile file, because of its geographic location and its historic roles in negotiations linked to its waters.
The forum this time works innovatively alongside traditional political elites, which seeks to extend the rule of dialogue by involving new groups, with a qualitative impact, in particular: religious leaders of Islamic and Christian religions, former diplomats that have accumulated long experiences in the management of Nile files, journalists from influential media institutions, in addition to parliamentarians control. This new approach reflects a tendency to create a common public discourse which supports cooperative vision and reduces tensions resulting from a misunderstanding or a lack of information.
The forum also aims to achieve a certain number of specific political and development objectives, the most important of which are: consolidation of dialogue based on the fact, to overcome the rhetorical disputes which have long disturbed the possibilities of regional understanding. In addition to promoting collective awareness of the Nile Basin Initiative Programs (NBI) and the Easter Nile Development Program (ENSAP), and the expansion of the circle of understanding their vital roles to support sustainable development and manage the effects of climate change. Similarly, to obtain political and media support for joint regional projects and to create an environment of understanding on crossed effects and interests.
In addition, one of the important objectives that has drawn the attention of experiences and observers is the transformation of technical information into a policy that can be used in decision -making, whether in environmental, water or geopolitical fields. This allows the reconstruction of confidence between Pelvic countries, in order to overcome the stagnation of negotiations and prepare the conditions to achieve complete consensus on the outstanding issues.
The organization of this forum in this precise regional circumstance reflects a growing conscience of the authorities concerned by the need to open up to the new parties in the dialogue and to remain away from the closed episodes which had previously led to the stumbling block of numerous initiatives. It is also an indication of an increasing desire to integrate the societal, religious and media dimension in the ways of official cooperation, which constitutes political and popular support for any future agreement.
Consequently, the forum is not limited to being a reciprocal activity of ideas, but rather to a strategic platform to reformulate the story of the Nile basin in a participatory perspective, based on awareness that water and climate security cannot be carried out by real cooperation and a sincere political intention.
By looking at the face of the truth, the third regional forum for stakeholders is not only a space for dialogue, but rather represents a detailed station on the way to developing a common vision for the future of cooperation between pelvic countries. In light of growing existential challenges, it has become necessary to adopt a new approach that transcends political stagnation and improves the logic of regional understanding as an essential strategic option. The importance of this vision comes from its ability to reconcile differences and highlight the crossings as a starting point for the integration of interests. From this point of view, the presence of Sudan in these activities has become a belief in the importance of effective engagement in the efforts to build confidence and consolidation of the foundations of joint cooperation, in order to achieve sustainable development and protect the security, stability and well-being of the peoples of the pelvis.
You are fine and well.
