The severity of Sudanese relations – Egyptian – a national murmur – ✍️ Dr Tariq Ashary

At a time when regional transformations accelerate and change the balance of powers, Sudanese relations -Egyptians no longer have the luxury of courtesy or the management of differences in a temporary correction. Between the banks of the Nile extending from south to north, the two countries stand in front of a historical examination: either to choose the path of a balanced partnership based on peers and mutual respect, or leave the disagreement files to enlarge until the chances of cooperation are devoured and the doors of crises. What brings Sudan and Egypt to be reduced to being reduced within geographic limits or immediate interests, and what separates them, if they are left without treatment, can turn into a crack difficult to raise in the future.

Sudanese -Egyptian relations really need a serious vision, because what links the two countries exceed geography and politics to the depth of history and common interests. But these relationships have suffered from decades from extension and islands, sometimes due to differences in sovereignty problems (such as the Halayeb and Shalateen triangle), and sometimes because of the different internal priorities of each country, in addition to regional and international interventions.

The relationship must be based on a real partnership, because the sovereignty of Sudan and its national decision are respected, and in return, Sudan guarantees the stability of its borders and its strategic interests of Egypt, in particular in the Nile water file. The Renaissance dam file is the joint defense agreement between the two countries

And the development of joint agricultural and industrial projects on the border.

Opening of markets to both parties without bureaucratic obstacles.

Investing Sudanese resources while guaranteeing the benefit of the Sudanese people, instead of the relationship as a unilateral exploitation.

Facing common threats such as terrorism and border smuggling.

Cooperation in the management of the water file in a way that guarantees water safety for both parties.

And hard work to improve cultural and media exchange to break stereotypes.

Facilitate movement between the two peoples with its organization in a way that preserves rights and prevents exploitation.

Opening of an official and popular dialogue through national skills of the two countries to reach solutions on unanswered issues such as Halayeb and Shalateen far from the cramps of the media.

Use regional or international mechanisms if the direct solution is not possible.

The severity of Sudanese -Egyptian relations is not an entertainment option, but rather a strategic necessity imposed by geography, history and common interests. The fate of the two countries is interconnected, and the security of one of them and its stability is reflected directly on the other. Consequently, the strengthening of the links of sincere cooperation and transcending challenges with a spirit of transparency and mutual respect, is the best way to build a firm partnership which serves the two peoples and reaches development and stability throughout the region.
