The League of Arab States … Absence when attendance is supposed to be assisted by Dr. Alaa Imad al -Din al -Badri

Accelerated events in the Arab world always reveal the fragility of joint Arab action and even the important question points on the feasibility of regional institutions which are supposed to represent the interests of peoples and protect their security and stability.

Since its foundation, the Arab States League has made large hopes to unite the Arab ranks and defend central problems, the most important of which is the Palestinian question, but the reality unfortunately indicates the exact contrary. This institution was almost absent from the main files dealing with crises, either by neutrality or by formal declarations which do not have a real political impact.

Today, the Gaza Strip is exposed to an unprecedented human tragedy, but the greatest support of parties and peoples is highlighted by Palestine, neither in religion nor in language, but only by human conscience. On the other hand, the university is satisfied with far surveillance as if it were an unreasonable entity or a neutral party in an existential question which affects one of its members.

As for Sudan, another example is no less painful as a state that suffers from a bloody conflict that threatens its social fabric and its geographic unity, and we have only found university of brief declarations which do not increase the level of the crisis, where are mediation efforts? Where are the Arab initiatives to protect civilians? Where is real political and human support? Or is Sudan with what it is going through outside the scope of collective Arab interest?

The problem is not only in the absence of intervention, but also in the absence of a sense of responsibility of the original, because it is not possible to speak of an Arab unit or a common destiny without the presence of an active regional institution which has the will and the capacity to influence and to make the pain that certain parts which have directly caused Arab crises are always part of this system without any account.

This reality pushes us to ask hard. Does adherence to the League of Arab States always serve the interests of the Member States or transformed into a formal interface used when the political need of certain parties without concern the problems and pain of peoples? It is necessary to review the feasibility of this membership, because the institutions are not measured by their Iraq, but by their ability to represent their peoples and to interact with their problems.

We are in Sudan, despite our solid relations with many Arab countries, but we have not found a responsible Arab position which reflects the depth of links and has a real sense of common destiny.
