World Tourism Day: an opportunity to relaunch Sudanese tourism – something for the fatherland – ✍️ Mr. Salah Ghariba

The world celebrates the twenty-seventh September each year the International Tourism Day, which is an opportunity to meditate on the importance of this vital sector and its role in economic and cultural development. For Sudan, which has a formidable tourist inheritance, this day comes to raise urgent questions about how to use these formidable resources, especially in post-war and reconstruction. Although Sudan is rich in antiques, historic sites and various natural resources, the tourism sector has not yet received the attention it deserves. The reconstruction of this sector can represent an important economic tributary and a means of improving national identity and cultural communication.

Tourism in Sudan after the end of the armed conflict requires a complete and thoughtful plan. Monuments and civilizational history in Sudan, such as the Pyramids of Meroe, whose number exceeds the pyramids of Giza, can be a strong starting point to attract tourists. . These pyramids belonging to the great kingdom of Kush, in addition to the treasures of vine civilizations, a plant and Christian kingdoms, are considered an unreasonable treasure that should see the light. To achieve this, the State must give the possibility of advancing the tourism sector, training executives in the fields of the hotel and tourism, and to develop effective marketing and promotion plans.

Civil society organizations specializing in tourism, such as the Sudanese organization of friends of tourism, play an essential role in promoting tourism destinations and awareness of their importance. These organizations can document archaeological sites, organize tourist events and provide information to tourists. In addition, tourist media has a role that is no less important, because it must be ordered to spread the culture of tourism among citizens, to inform them of the importance of national heritage and to encourage them to visit the tourist sites of their country. The media, through programs and specialized activities, can help to raise awareness and improve the culture of domestic tourism.

Tourism is an important economic tributary, as is the case in countries like Jordan concerning medical tourism, and Egypt, which is strongly based on tourism to provide the state treasure. Consequently, the creation of the Supreme Council for the activation of tourism in Sudan has become an urgent necessity. This council will serve as a superior coordination entity working to unify the efforts of all the authorities concerned, including government and private and civil society organizations. The council can contribute to:

Establish long -term strategies for the development of the tourism sector.

Facilitate intelligent partnerships with international organizations in the fields of catering, documentation and promotion.

Allocating the resources necessary to develop tourist infrastructure.

Monitor the quality of the tourist services provided and ensure their compatibility with international standards.

Thanks to these integrated efforts, Sudan can get strongly on the world tourism map and benefit from its archaeological and historical treasures to achieve sustainable development and to provide a unique and different tourist experience from the rest of the countries.
