Health Minister welcomes restoration of services in Mecca hospitals and expansion in states

Federal Minister of Health, Dr. Haitham Muhammad Ibrahim, has expressed great appreciation for the role played by the International Sight Foundation (Mecca Hospitals) in supporting the health sector in Sudan, stressing that it represents a critical pillar in the strategy of localizing treatments in the country.

During his visit to Makkah Eye Hospital in Wad Madani today, the minister praised the rapid restoration of services in hospitals in Atbara, Madani, Kalakla and Omdurman, which helped provide genuine treatment alternatives to citizens during the war period.

He highlighted the educational and training role of the institution, noting that the majority of specialists and ancillary staff receive qualification and training in Makkah hospitals before engaging in work in the public and private sectors.



The minister announced the allocation of land in the town of Wad Madani, the capital of Gezira State, for the construction of a new ophthalmology flagship, which will become a regional center serving a number of neighboring states, after the situation in Khartoum stabilizes and other hospitals resume full activity.

The minister concluded his speech by thanking all the medical and assistance staff of the International Sight Foundation, emphasizing that the speed of restoration of services represents a model in the management of health crises.

For his part, Mr. Al-Aas Ahmed Kamel, regional director of the International Sight Foundation, expressed his joy at the visit of the Minister of Health and the accompanying delegation, explaining that the Foundation has managed to restore most of its hospitals to provide services to citizens despite the current challenges.

He pointed out that Makkah hospitals perform around 3,000 surgical operations per month and are preparing to open new facilities in Madani and Omdurman, in addition to setting up 40 free treatment camps and fully restoring specialized services. He revealed ongoing efforts to resume work at Riyadh Hospital and Makkah College, as well as the construction of the new Omdurman Hospital in Makkah to replace the old rented building.
