Launch of a project to support displaced people in the central town of Gedaref

Today, Advisor to the Governor of Gedaref State for Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons, Mr. Hamad Al-Jazouli, inaugurated a project to support internally displaced persons in the reception camp in Abu Al-Naga area, in the central locality of Gedaref, which included the distribution of 500 food baskets and 500 blankets, in addition to tents and water supplies.

The project is funded by the Islamic Education Society of the Kingdom of Bahrain and implemented by the Al-Ishraq Development and Reconstruction Organization.

The Governor’s Advisor confirmed that Gedaref State has hosted a large number of internally displaced persons and refugees, requiring concerted efforts by the government and national and international organizations to address the growing humanitarian challenges.



For her part, the Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid in Gedaref State, Dr. Zahraa Mirghani, explained that the scale of the humanitarian disaster exceeds the capacities of the state and working organizations, especially with the onset of the winter season, revealing the arrival of three delegations from the Heglig and West Kordofan regions in critical humanitarian situations, including around 260 families in reception centers, with the hope that the influx of displaced people will continue in during the coming period.

She added that there is a great shortage of accommodation, health and food services, in light of the challenges facing organizations, including the problems faced by the World Food Program in providing support, noting that the international community has not kept up with the scale of the crisis, and called on philanthropists to support those affected by the war.

In the same context, the visiting delegation of the Islamic Education Association to the state, led by Sheikh Abdul Halim Abdullah Ahmed Murad, expressed full solidarity with the people of Sudan, emphasizing the association’s commitment to continue supporting humanitarian projects and standing with the affected people, following their field visits to a number of the association’s projects in the state.

For his part, the Director General of Al-Ishraq Organization for Development and Reconstruction, Mr. Adam Ali Hamed, confirmed that this aid is part of emergency humanitarian interventions to support displaced people affected by the war, stressing the continuation of cooperation with partners to expand the scope of support and alleviate human suffering.

The inauguration was attended by the Director of Al-Ishraq Organization in Gedaref, Mr. Ammar Salah Qesm, and a number of official and community leaders.
