The National Forum of Specialized Centers discusses the issues of dialysis, eye treatment and oncology

Participants in the scientific sessions of the National Forum of Specialized Centers, including experts and medical staff, discussed the challenges facing the health sector in Sudan after years of conflict, where ideas and visions were exchanged on ways to improve medical services and address current challenges.

Discussions focused on three main areas, including dialysis centers, eye care and oncology treatments, with emphasis on the importance of expansion and providing sustainable funding to ensure continuity of services.

The Ministry of Health has announced the operation of 76 dialysis centers across all states, with plans to expand the network to meet the growing demand for this service.



For her part, Dr. Najat Dablok, from the National Center for Renal Diseases and Surgery, reviewed the most important challenges facing patients with kidney failure and the achievements made during the war period, including the development and maintenance of centers and the receipt of new dialysis machines, as part of a strategy to ease the pressure on existing centers, in addition to the return of the proton dialysis service after a 30-month hiatus.

In the field of eyes, representatives of the National Eye Center explained that the lack of funding represents the greatest challenge to the continuity of services, emphasizing that specialists work voluntarily without compensation, with the center relying on charitable support and coordination with health insurance to ensure the continuation of surgical operations and improve health care.

Regarding oncological treatment, Professor Dafallah Abu Idris, director of the National Oncology Center, warned of the worsening crisis due to the lack of radiotherapy, which has led to a significant increase in mortality rates. He called for the establishment of 21 oncology centers in all states and treating the radiotherapy issue as a national emergency requiring urgent government intervention and motivating medical staff.

The forum also discussed the vision of health services for the year 2026, where a comprehensive vision was presented, aiming to provide free health care to specific groups, through three clear treatment pathways including free, cost-effective and insurance services.

Dr. Najm Al-Din Al-Majzoub stressed the need to allocate clear and sustainable financial resources to meet the needs of citizens, noting that sustainable financing represents one of the biggest challenges facing the health system.

Participants discussed proposals to develop innovative sources of financing, including the creation of support associations to raise popular funds for specialized hospitals, in addition to emphasizing the importance of supporting government institutions, reducing dependence on the private sector and strengthening the partnership between the two sectors to ensure the sustainability of health services.

The speakers highlighted the need to provide lucrative financial incentives for health skills in order to maintain distinguished cadres within government centers, stressing that the National Forum of Specialized Centers 2025 represents an important platform to exchange experiences, discuss future solutions and build strategic partnerships that guarantee the continuity and quality of health services, in light of the difficult circumstances that the country is going through.
