North Darfur governor issues decision exempting local administrations and mayors from supporting rebellion

El Fasher – Zoll Net – January 1, 2026

In a decisive step to strengthen the rule of law, the Governor of North Darfur State, Hafiz Bakhit Muhammad, took the decision to dismiss a number of indigenous administrations and mayors, on the grounds that they were accused of supporting the rebellion and violating the laws governing indigenous administration in the state.

The decision included the exemption of:

Al-Sadiq Abbas Dhow al-Bayt, governor of East Darfur, and his domains include the localities of Umm Kadada, al-Lait and al-Tawisha.

Ibrahim Abdullah Jadallah, superintendent of Al-Atifat in the locality of Kutum.

Ibrahim Sabeel, mayor of Al-Atifat Um Qaflah in the locality of Umm Kadada.

The decision explained that the exemption was based on the aforementioned violation of the provisions of Article (1/13) of the Law Organizing the Indigenous Administration of the State of North Darfur of 1999, after it was proven that they had mobilized members of their tribes and incited to undermine state institutions, in addition to the accusations related to participation in acts of violence and violations committed by rebel forces.

The decision ordered the sheikhs affiliated with the exempt mayors to carry out work, each within the scope of their competence, until further notice, in order to ensure the continuity of local administration and not to disrupt the affairs of citizens.

The state governor also ordered relevant authorities to open cases against those who were exempted and bring them to justice fairly, with emphasis on immediate implementation of the decision.
