United Nations Development Program confirms continued support for sanitation, health and education projects in Khartoum

The United Nations Development Program has affirmed its commitment to continue supporting sanitation, health and education projects in the locality of Khartoum, as part of recovery efforts and support for war-affected communities.

The Resident Program Coordinator in Sudan, Denise Brown, praised what was achieved under the Human Appeal organization’s cash-for-work project, which aimed to employ local citizens of Khartoum in environmental hygiene and sanitation in war-affected areas.

This happened during his inspection today of the rehabilitation, cleaning and beautification project of Mohamed Najib Street, accompanied by the director of the local cleaning authority and representative of the executive director, Mr. Omar Othman. After the visit, it was assured that the implementation of joint projects between the locality of Khartoum, the United Nations Development Program and the Human Appeal organization would continue.

Areas of support included continuing the waste transportation program, supplying health centers with solar energy and vaccines under preventive health programs, in addition to contributing to the maintenance of schools and providing seats for students, so as to enhance the stability of the educational process.

For his part, the representative of the executive director of the locality of Khartoum, Mr. Omar Othman, appreciated the great role played by the United Nations Development Program and the Human Appeal in the restoration of services after the war, particularly in the areas of hygiene and sanitation, primary health care and support for education, welcoming the visit of the resident coordinator of the program and her concern to stay on the ground on the effectiveness of the implementation of the projects supporting the local community.
