Microbiology laboratory opened at Gedaref Children’s Hospital to improve diagnosis and infection control

As part of a step to strengthen the diagnostic capabilities of laboratories and improve the quality of health care for children, the Microbiology Laboratory was opened today at Gedaref State Children’s University Hospital, to support efforts to combat infections in health care and improve the medical services provided.
The opening ceremony was attended by the Director General of Hussein Mustafa University Hospital, Dr. Sumaya Ahmed Al-Sheikh, as well as a number of health personnel and specialists, as the laboratory represents a qualitative addition to the state’s health service system.
The laboratory contributes to the diagnosis of bacterial, viral and fungal diseases, and to the performance of blood cultures and various fluids, in addition to antibiotic sensitivity tests, which promotes the rationalization of their use and reduces the phenomenon of microbial resistance.
Dr. Sumaya Ahmed Al-Sheikh stressed that the opening of the microbiology laboratory represents a real change in the level of health services provided to children, highlighting its direct role in the speed and accuracy of diagnosis and in improving treatment decision-making, especially in critical cases such as blood poisoning and serious infections.
She added that the hospital administration pays special attention to the development of specialist and laboratory services, explaining that the laboratory is equipped according to approved technical standards and staffed with qualified and trained staff, which improves infection control programs and patient safety, and contributes to reducing morbidity and mortality rates among children.
