Prime Minister-designate announces support for projects of the Supreme Council for Environment and Natural Resources
Othman Hussein Othman, Prime Minister-designate, announced his support and interest in the activities and work of the Supreme Council for Environment and Natural Resources and the implementation of all results and plans of the Council regarding the development of the sector .
He stressed the importance of developing plans to rebuild the sector, which has deteriorated significantly in all its areas. He stressed that biodiversity represents wealth for Sudan, noting the importance of addressing challenges and transforming them into opportunities for success to preserve the environment.
Addressing the celebration of the World Day for Biological Diversity on Wednesday in Port Sudan, he said the Environment Council is working in very complex circumstances and the state is facing rebellion.
In this context, Mona Ali Muhammad Ahmed, Secretary General of the Environment Council, said that the country is rich in biodiversity and it must be preserved. She highlighted the decrease in forest areas after the secession of South Sudan, and stressed that. Biodiversity will make the country an advanced place and meet global needs for food, tourism and science, taking into account the environment of the Nile, sea, plains and forests, highlighting that the challenge is great and requires double effort. to preserve wealth and benefit from it. She underlined the need to preserve this diversity and to face the threats weighing on the diversity of the floodplains and the forests of the Nile, due to the Renaissance Dam and therefore to the loss of forest wealth, fishery wealth, birds , etc. ., and called for pressure for the dam to be operated in accordance with Sudan's interests, Mona warned of the need to reduce the problems of large projects that destroy the environment in the Red Sea by taking into account the environment before granting permits. as well as paying attention to ecotourism on maritime coasts, and stressed the need to monitor nature reserves.
