The Sudan Coalition for Education for All, represented by its Director General, Mr. Naji Al-Shafi'i, participated in the regional workshop on civil society engagement in non-formal and continuing education in the Arab region, at the headquarters of the General Coalition Secretariat of the League of Arab States.

Workshop participants released the following final statement:

“We are representatives of civil society organizations – at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States in Cairo, Arab Republic of Egypt, and remote participants from Arab countries in a multi-regional workshop jointly organized by the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States. League of Arab States (Social Affairs Sector/Civil Society Organizations Department) and United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, UNESCO (Cairo Regional Office), on 21 and 22 May 2024, with the aim of to strengthen the essential role. of civil society in the promotion of non-formal education and lifelong learning in the Arab region.

The workshop participants expressed their strong belief and dedication in favor of the right to education for society, especially for the most disadvantaged individuals, with the aim of unlocking their full potential and also as a fundamental condition for achieving to social justice, economic development and sustainability. emphasizing their commitment to contribute to regional efforts to achieve the goals of the Arab Decade for Civil Society Organizations (2016-2026), the Arab Decade for Literacy and Adult Learning (2015-2024), the fourth objective of the Sustainable Development Goals, the Education Transformation Summit and the Marrakech Framework.

Participants highlighted the essential role played by civil society in keeping education abreast of future developments, committed to formulating a new social contract for teaching and learning that will help us build a secure, just future and sustainable development for all in the Arab region, and support Arab efforts to involve civil society in non-formal education and long-term learning to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals and address regional challenges, including weak stability, equality, availability of opportunities, climate crisis and climate crisis. rapid pace of change in the world.

The workshop recommended creating different platforms and communities of practice, whether in-person, virtually or both, to enhance the exchange of ideas and open spaces for dialogue on lifelong learning, with meaningful and effective participation of teachers, educators, policy makers and the private sector. , regional and international organizations and all stakeholders, and to engage in activities at regional and international levels, including platforms held by regional and international partners such as the League of Arab States, UNESCO, 'Arab League Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, ALESCO and the Islamic Educational and Cultural Organization (ISESCO), in order to strengthen advocacy and advocacy to achieve education/ new, equitable and comprehensive learning for all within the framework of lifelong learning.

It is rare to support avenues of innovation in the field of teaching and learning while promoting the ethical use of digital technologies and artificial intelligence, by disseminating the teaching/learning concepts of global citizenship, teaching/learning for sustainable development, media and IT development, and education for peacebuilding, and work to implement capacity building programs for stakeholders of civil society and promote best practices in non-formal and continuing education while seeking to create and strengthen mechanisms for the exchange of experiences, knowledge and resources at the regional and international levels within the framework of the cooperation. with the Arab Network for Literacy and Adult Learning.

They highlighted the development of high-quality teaching and learning programs in the Arabic language, while recognizing the great influence of the Arabic language in the formation of knowledge and the strengthening of Arab identity.

Strengthen the capacity of civil society institutions on all data, ensure adequate monitoring and control and write reports to guide and refer to them in research and evidence-based policies, with the aim of provide fair data as much as possible.

We note the importance of strengthening regional and international cooperation, establishing partnerships and networks, and engaging in joint efforts to mobilize resources, advocate and improve coordination in supporting regional investigative and study, such as: initiatives led by the League of Arab States and UNESCO to strengthen synergy, reduce duplication of efforts and facilitate the use of these resources.

They stressed that supporting education as a fundamental human right and helping to ensure that learning continues, particularly for marginalized groups, including girls, migrants, refugees and people with disabilities, and that Education/learning is a fundamental and urgent necessity in crisis contexts, which must be provided during humanitarian response in crisis and conflict zones, calling for increased support for educational innovation in teaching and education. learning in coordination with the variables of the cognitive and digital revolutions in the digital age, and to work towards the standardization of terminology to produce a dictionary on the renewal of concepts in terms of learning, teaching and learning while throughout the adult lifespan, in partnership with the expertise of the Arab House for Adult Learning and Development, and promote important development such as the employment of workers in the field of education and lifelong learning.
