An opportunity to reflect and review our behavior in times of war – Something for the Homeland – ✍️ Mr. Salah Ghariba
The world commemorates June 1 as “International Parents’ Day” every year, paying tribute to their sacrifices, care and central role in building society. However, this day, in light of the war conditions ravaging Sudan, becomes an opportunity to reflect and review our behavior towards those who gave us life, and to take an honest pause with ourselves to evaluate in how far we have fulfilled our responsibilities towards them.
The war casts a dark shadow over all aspects of life in Sudan and over Sudanese children and their families abroad, including our relationships with parents. Under conditions of displacement and loss of security and stability, parents face many challenges that negatively affect their physical and mental health and hinder their access to necessary health care.
Many shameful situations show how much we neglect the needs of parents, especially in light of the conditions of the war in Sudan, where parents are exposed to harsh conditions due to displacement and displacement, and are therefore forced to leave their home and possessions. , and migrate from conflict zones in search of safety, which constitutes an enormous psychological and physical burden for them. They are neglected when they become ill, as war conditions hinder parents' access to necessary health care, including lack of medicine and medical care. medical supplies and lack of qualified medical personnel. In Cairo, some people avoid receiving their parents' bodies at the hospital: paying medical bills becomes a heavy burden for some children, pushing them to abandon the responsibility of receiving their parents' bodies. .
War conditions are difficult for everyone, but that does not justify us neglecting the needs of parents and forgetting their role in our lives. The psychological effects of war affect everyone's psyche, causing some people to lose their ability to understand the needs of others, including. Parents must focus on survival. In war conditions, the emphasis is on meeting basic survival needs, which can marginalize the needs of parents and result in a lack of awareness of the importance of the role of parents. parents. Some do not realize the importance of parents' role in our lives, nor the value of caring for them and appreciating their sacrifices.
We cannot change the conditions of war, but we can change our behavior towards parents, by communicating with them regularly, to check on their health and psychological state, provide moral support, and provide health care. Efforts should be made to provide necessary health care to parents, especially in war conditions, while alleviating their suffering, parents' suffering can be alleviated by helping them with their daily tasks and providing them with material resources and morals. support, and we must express our gratitude and appreciation for the sacrifices of parents, through words and actions.
A message to every son and daughter: remember that your parents are the ones who gave you life and raised you with their efforts and sacrifices, so do not neglect them in the most difficult circumstances, because in the circumstances of war, their need for your support, love and care increases.
