Mr. Muhammad Othman Abkar, Director General of Sennar State Forests, confirmed that the state has (796) forests, covering an area of (1,098,622.4) acres.
He stressed that forests continued to be subjected to fierce attacks, through unjust logging and encroachment for agricultural and domestic purposes.
He stressed that the Forest Department, despite its weak capacity, continues to work to protect forests and work to cultivate areas with a view to restoring forests, despite existing challenges.
Calling on the community to contribute to the protection of forests as they constitute one of the most important economic resources, the production of gum arabic and the preservation of forests helps the environment.
Stressing that the administration must appoint guards and means of movement to combat unfair cuts, resulting from the high cost of gas, the increase in population and the appearance of bricks.

He stressed that the most important solutions are to impose the prestige of the state, to work on the appointment of guards, to provide means of travel and to provide adequate financing for the planting and rehabilitation of forests, in addition to raise awareness among farmers, particularly on the other side of the Nile, not to encroach on forests. As for the forests of Dahra, tracks have been opened to facilitate the tasks of agriculture, grazing and forest preservation.
