Director General of the Ministry of Production in Sennar: He confirmed the approval of an area of 3.7 billion acres and 700 thousand tons of improved seeds for the summer season, during the meeting of the Supreme Committee in Sudan.
As part of the first preparations for the start of the summer agricultural season for the year 2024-2025 AD, the Ministry of Production and Economic Resources of the State of Sennar confirmed its participation in the meeting of the Supreme Committee for the successful agricultural season in Sudan, which was held recently in the administrative capital of Port Sudan, led by the Federal Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, Dr. Abu Bakr Omar Al-Bishri, and in the presence of States from the north, Gedaref, Kassala and the State of Sennar. The meeting reviewed the indicative plan for the agricultural season in Sudan, targeted areas, seeds, gasoline, fertilizers and pesticides, as well as agricultural financing. The meeting highlighted the need to provide pesticides to control birds and revealed contracts with airlines related to agricultural pest control operations.
Director General of the Ministry of Production and Economic Resources – Sennar State, Minister in charge of Agriculture, Al-Hadi Al-Sadiq Ali, confirmed that an area of 3.7 billion acres (three million seven hundred thousand acres) had been approved for the cultivation of maize, millet, sesame, cotton, groundnuts and sunflower, in the total area of 5,000 million acres in Sennar State, with the clearance of affected areas in the northern areas in contact with Gezira State.
The Director General said his ministry had put in place necessary precautions to ensure the supply of gasoline before the road was cut, by supplying gasoline to major stations and warehouses in Sennar State, and that the flow was going well, in terms of agricultural financing. Al-Hadi revealed the adoption of the comprehensive policy, adding that the director of the Sudanese Agricultural Bank confirmed that all banking policies were uploaded to all branches for further financing and implementation.
Highlighting that 700,000 tons of different types of improved seeds have been approved for Sennar State, Al-Hadi considered this quantity insufficient for the stability of the state, calling for an increase in the quantities of seeds. The meeting highlighted the need to provide space through the direct purchase of seeds, with emphasis on the Arab Seed Production Company, and he added: “There is contact with the company to know the types of seeds and for the type of seeds. required speed, the required quantity must be supplied. Al-Hadi added that the reality bodes well for the success of the agricultural season after the rains.
Al-Hadi said that Sennar State was affected by the decline in sesame cultivated areas in the previous two years, adding that the 2022-2023 season saw the stability of sesame cultivated areas, confirming the recovery of Marmoush disease sesame cultivation. due to the sharp increase in production and prices, the sesame area is expected to increase during this season, due to the increase in prices and the absence of diseases.
The Director-General called on farmers to embrace the application of modern technologies, optimum use of pesticides, continuous monitoring and agricultural diligence of the farmer to increase and increase production and productivity. Al-Hadi recognized that the traditional sector needs our continuity. support, including seeds, extension operations and provision of information to increase the agricultural component and increase their income through productivity.
