Acting Nile Governor inaugurates seed project provided by FAO and Peace Development Organization, confirms Nile State is capable of achieving food security and Sudan will not suffer from hunger.
Engineer Salah Ali Karkba, Acting Governor of Nile and Minister of State for Production and Economic Resources, confirmed that Nile State is capable of ensuring food security in the country. This came during the inauguration at the headquarters of the Agricultural Bank warehouses in Damar, the inauguration of the first batch of the grant awarded by FAO, namely 447 tons of maize, including 20 tons of Tabit variety and 427 tons of Dahmad variety, in the presence and participation of Mr. Othman Muhammad Othman, Secretary General of the State Government, Engineer Salah Al-Mamoun, Head of the Agriculture Department, Engineer Abdul Wahab Al-Mansouri, Director of Irrigation in the State, Dr. Mona Abdullah, FAO Coordinator in the State, and Professor Rumaisa Al-Sheikh, Project Coordinator in the State, representing the Peace Development Organization.
Engineer Salah Karkba stressed that these works represent one of the great achievements and one of humanity for a human being and a citizen of the state and the country in general, especially since the project will contribute to the cultivation of more than 150,000 acres in the country. He added that the arrival of these quantities that have reached the state is the result of their communication with FAO since the previous year. He praised the interaction of FAO and the Peace Development Organization with the state in the program to ensure food security. He stressed that we reassure everyone that our country, God willing, will not be struck by hunger. He added that the project was carried out. a peaceful period, especially since the state is hosting a very large number of people arriving in the state as a result of the ongoing rebellion, and the acting governor ordered the localities and departments concerned to closely monitor these quantities of seeds and seeds. ensure their distribution to producers and their cultivation.
Mr. Othman Mohamed Othman, Secretary General of the State Government, thanked FAO and Salam Development Organization for this valuable gift to the State. He added that the State is bearing a heavy burden due to the abandonment of a large number of agricultural projects. Therefore, it is necessary for everyone to unite and cooperate to compensate for the losses by increasing production. He ordered local authorities to speed up the establishment of large warehouses to accommodate seeds and production inputs and to implement the directives of the State Government. He indicated that these quantities will be distributed directly to all localities and gave. good news that these quantities of seeds that arrived with good news of the success of this fall, God willing, and the irrigation of all the valleys will contribute to the cultivation of all these valleys with the Wadahmad variety of corn, which is compatible with. the type of cultivation of these medicines, and the experiments have proven its success, allowing the state to obtain an abundant harvest of corn, God willing.
Dr. Mona Abdullah, FAO Coordinator in the state, said these quantities of seeds cover the summer season and confirmed their cooperation with the state to ensure food security of the country and the state.
Mrs. Rumaisa Al-Sheikh, coordinator of the project and the Salam Development Organization, indicated that the organization had previous experience with the state during the previous winter season in providing seeds that were distributed to more than 20,000 producers in the state. She indicated that this year. the subsidy was increased and vegetable seeds were introduced, about five thousand grams of okra and watermelon seeds.
