Northern Governor Launches Campaign to Respond to Polio Outbreak for 168,218 Thousand Boys and Girls

The Acting Governor of Northern State, Mr. Abdeen Awadallah, has launched the second round of the polio outbreak response campaign in the Northern States, River Nile, Kassala, Gedaref and Red Sea, for children aged one day to five years old.

During his speech at the celebration organized on this occasion, the state governor commended the efforts of the state's Ministry of Health, in light of the circumstances the country is going through.

Highlighting its active role in the fall emergencies, he stressed the state's ability to meet the challenges it faces as follows: warding off the health effects of the fall:

He highlighted the state government's continued efforts and concern for the health of citizens, especially children, and their protection from various diseases.

He called for concerted efforts and harnessing all capacities to make the campaign a success and reach all targeted children.

For his part, the Director General of the Ministry of Health in the North, Dr. Sati Hassan Sati, confirmed that all assistance would be provided to make the campaign a success.

Stressing that there is a program accompanying this campaign, which is an active investigation into epidemics and chronic diseases.

In turn, the Executive Director of Dongola Locality, Dr. Makkawi Al-Khair, said that the campaign targets more than forty-two thousand boys and girls in the locality, and highlighted the efforts of the Ministry of Health and its partners to treat and counter the effects of autumn on health through disease vector spraying and water testing campaigns.

In the same context, the representative of the Federal Minister of Health, Dr. Muhtadi Mahmoud, confirmed the continuation of coordination with the health ministries of the states,

He said that this campaign is gaining importance due to the emergence of polio infection cases in Kassala and Gedaref states. The quick response is due to the campaign aimed at preventing the spread of the virus to the rest of the states.

In addition, the Director of the Expanded Vaccination Department in the North, Abdel-Rahman Abdel-Al, explained that the campaign aims to reach children under five years old and boost their immunity against the polio virus. He added that the campaign targets 168,218 thousand male and female children in the state, indicating that 590 teams have received all the necessary assistance for the campaign.
