128 new cases of cholera, including 8 deaths, in the states of Kassala and Gedaref
The Federal Fall Emergency Room held its scheduled meeting today Wednesday in the Kassala City Public Health Laboratory meeting room and reviewed fall reports, environmental health, food control, health promotion and cholera.
The fall report confirmed that 50 localities and 440 regions in 10 states were affected, while 36,142 families and 156,995 individuals were affected, 16,188 houses completely collapsed and 14,099 houses partially collapsed.
The cholera epidemiological report revealed that 128 new cases of cholera were recorded yesterday in Kassala and Gedaref states (87 cases in Kassala, 41 cases in Gedaref), including the death of 8 patients, with 4 deaths in each state.
The report on environmental health and food control highlighted the status of chlorine availability, its immediate need and the activities implemented in the different axes, while the report on health promotion referred to a number of interventions and activities to combat cholera through the media, social media, community dialogues and home visits.
The meeting requested to review the availability of chlorine in some states, particularly in the north, to which the Red Crescent Society had provided quantities, to carefully inventory drinking water sources and send letters to states regarding chlorination through the water authorities, and to designate a representative to attend the autumn meetings, and with regard to health promotion, it ordered to determine the objectives of activities and interventions, their implementation and lack thereof.
