An urgent appeal to the Egyptian Consulate in Halfa, the management of Arqin and Ashkit crossings, and the Sovereignty Council – Whispering the Letters – ✍️ Dr. Al-Baqir Abdul Qayyum Ali

These days, the Northern State is exposed to unprecedented torrential rains and devastating floods that have led to extremely complex humanitarian disasters and significant loss of life and property. Many houses and infrastructure have been destroyed and have seriously affected the lives of the people. The assessment of the emergency committees has been. In their reports, the extent of the damage that has been monitored has been estimated at thousands of houses completely damaged and three times more partially, and tens of thousands of people have lost their homes, until the situation in the State has changed. has become tragic and requires rapid intervention and urgent humanitarian response to save thousands of affected people and contribute to reconstruction.

The unfortunate thing is that infrastructure has been affected by these torrents and rains, as they have caused considerable damage to bridges and roads, leading to the cutting of major roads connecting cities and towns in the state. This natural disaster has made it difficult to move between different regions, leading to confusion in the movement of citizens, cutting off supplies and aid, and making access to the affected areas very difficult, further complicating efforts to mitigate the severity of the crisis.

I would like to convey through this space an urgent appeal to the Egyptian Arab Consulate in the city of Halfa from a number of citizens who registered several months ago on the lists of visa applicants and were about to arrive at their appointment, but the current emergency circumstances, including floods, cut off the roads to Halfa, preventing them from doing what they wanted. Some of them were sick, and some of them contacted me and asked me to convey their voice, which expressed their deep concern. they were about to lose their chance to obtain a visa, and they appealed to His Excellency the Consul to take the necessary measures to confirm their rights on the waiting list due to exceptional circumstances beyond their control, and seeking to postpone their appointments so that. they can reach Halfa safely.

On the other hand, I would like to inform the Sudanese authorities of the extent of the suffering of Egyptian truck drivers transiting through the Arqin and Ashket crossing points, due to the severe overcrowding that led to their delay, which exacerbated the extent of their delay. One of their sufferings is the inability of customs agents to respond to them, by evading them and not responding to their communications, which increased the complexity of their situation, and it is for this reason that we call on the customs authorities at the crossing points and hangars to open. The points of sale must activate effective procedures to hold the procrastinating customs agents accountable in order to ensure the improvement and acceleration of customs procedures, especially since the environment at the crossing points is not suitable for animals, much less for humans, as they do not contain the basic components of humans. Daily life includes services such as water, sanitation and shade from the scorching sun, which exposes most of these drivers to sunstroke, which can lead to death most of the time, God forbid. In addition, in these difficult circumstances, some of them are sometimes exposed to verbal harassment from some members of the regular forces on the ground, and all these difficult circumstances put enormous pressure on these drivers, and negatively affect their psychological and living conditions.

After the strict directives issued by the Sovereign Committee formed by the Sovereign Council after the transfer of the crossing points, tasked with ending the state of overcrowding and delays at the Arqin and Ashkit crossing points, the movement began to proceed smoothly and in good conditions. Now, things are moving forward well to end this situation, and this is our role. We ask the esteemed committee to forward this dilapidated environmental picture to the Sovereignty Council so that it seeks to provide an environment conducive to working, receiving guests and hosting guests. provide basic services such as drinking water, health facilities, treatment facilities and civil protection, in a manner that befits the dependence of these crossing points on the sovereignty of Sudan.

We appreciate Egypt's efforts to contain the Sudanese crisis from the beginning of the war until this latest crisis, and I confirm that Egypt's willingness to provide assistance to Sudan in general and the Northern State in particular has not stopped and that Egypt remains fully prepared and ready to provide more, and this issue is appropriate. This is a great gratitude from us, because Egypt has greatly contributed to alleviating the severity of the crisis and reducing the suffering of the affected people by overcoming all these crises.

I would like to express the deep thanks and sincere appreciation of the government and people of the Northern State to the Egyptian people and their government, as well as special and sincere thanks to the Egyptian consul and Arkan Salamah for their presence on the ground in the city of Halfa. the condition of the affected people, and we appreciate his efforts to follow up on the situation of the affected people and his serious efforts to provide direct support, which were greatly appreciated by all citizens of the city of Halfa, his field visit showed. the clear commitment on his part and the great sympathy of the Egyptian consulate towards those affected by the floods and rains, as well as their support alongside us, have effectively contributed to mitigating the psychological impact. Accept the affliction with patience and determination.

And God is behind the intention
