Health Minister announces start of arrangements for creation of two new radiotherapy centres
A meeting was held on chronic diseases for the categories of heart diseases and cancers (tumors), which are given free treatment at the state expense, at the office of the Federal Minister of Health, Dr. Haitham Muhammad Ibrahim in Port Sudan.
The meeting discussed the importance of organizing service delivery points and opening new service points after Khartoum and Gezira states stopped providing cardiology and cancer services.
The supply of medicines for cancer patients has been ensured and the medicines have been brought in preparation for the coming period.
Federal Minister of Health Dr. Haitham Muhammad Ibrahim, in statements to the press today, said that the meeting ensured the therapeutic aspect after the exit of specialized centers that provide services in Khartoum and Gezira states for patients with cancer and heart diseases, and the only current outlet is Daman Hospital. Meroe Medical Center, indicating that the meeting stressed the need to reduce therapeutic and radiological costs, with Marawi Medical Center continuing to provide services to patients, being the only center that offers this service in the country.
Haitham revealed a plan to set up two new radiotherapy centres. Arrangements have started and financial approvals will be forthcoming soon.
As for therapeutic catheterization and open heart surgeries for adults and children, the minister said that the situation is better than that of oncology and that the centers that provide this service have reached two therapeutic catheterizations for the Red Sea and Northern States in addition to Atbara Shendi. and Marawi medical centers, stressing that the state-supported cardiac catheterization program, the centers are working well and the current trend is to expand open heart surgery. He added that surgeries for pediatric heart patients have started at Daman Hospital in. Marawi continued by saying that we are looking to reduce costs so that we can provide services to a greater extent, in cooperation with Sudanese partners, and apart from that, to work on more pediatric heart surgery projects and provide medical consumables. the National Medical Supplies Fund.
