Minister of Health and Governor of Darfur discuss current health situation in the region
The Minister of Health, Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, received this afternoon in his office in Port Sudan the Governor of the Darfur region, Minni Arko Minawi, and his accompanying delegation, in the presence of several leaders of the ministry.
The meeting discussed the current health situation in the Darfur region and the challenges it faces, as well as the repeated targeting of Janjaweed rapid support militias in El Fasher town.
The minister praised the health efforts made by medical personnel working in Darfur states to continue providing health services despite the targeting, emphasizing continued coordination with the regional government, explaining that the Darfur region does not recorded no epidemic cases, leading the development. of mechanisms to implement the urgent need for medical supplies, surgical and orthopedic equipment, highlighting the work of modernization of some rural hospitals in the region after the availability of specialized medical personnel, he thanked the medical personnel and qualified as patriotic his firmness.
The minister said one of his ministry's plans was to soon organize a conference for the development of health services in the Darfur region after achieving victory in the Karama battle.
The minister announced the support of the Ministry of Health to the region in the amount of 100 million to support executives and operate hospitals in El Fasher, revealing the continuation of medicine delivery operations by air in coordination with the armed forces.
Meanwhile, the Governor of the Darfur region, Minni Arko Minawi, reviewed the health situation in the region and called on the Ministry of Health to help cover the needs for medical devices and equipment and rehabilitate operating hospitals, in plus the need to provide pharmaceutical supplies. He explained that the Janjaweed Rapid Support militias targeted health facilities and medical personnel, thanking the Ministry of Health and its cadres have the mandate to resist and continue providing services for the sake of the health of citizens.
At the end of the joint meeting, it was assured that joint cooperation would continue, coordination would increase and federal support for the region would continue.
