Speech by Acting Minister of Transport, Eng. Abu Bakr Abu Al-Qasim Abdullah – during the Arab-European workshop on the preparation of an integrated study for the project of establishing the green hydrogen supply chain

His Excellency Engineer Abu Bakr Abu Al-Qasim Abdullah – Acting Minister of Transport, participated as a speaker in the Arab-European workshop on the preparation of an integrated study for the chain establishment project green hydrogen supply, organized by the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport in cooperation with the European Union and the Transport and Tourism Administration of the League of Arab States yesterday, Thursday, November 14, 2024.

In his speech, the Acting Minister of Transport highlighted that the holding of the workshop comes at a time when the world is witnessing rapid developments in the areas of renewable energy and environmental innovation, noting that the event constitutes a new step towards achieving common goals in building a green and sustainable future.

The minister said: “Green hydrogen is considered one of the most promising renewable energy sources, due to its great potential in reducing carbon emissions and meeting growing energy demand. in an environmentally friendly manner,” highlighting the role of Arab-European cooperation. as an essential element in the development of green hydrogen supply chain infrastructure. “This requires joint efforts and effective coordination to create a framework that can make the most of this modern technology. »

The minister reiterated Sudan's belief in the importance of moving towards clean energy as the main axis to achieve sustainable development and address the environmental challenges facing the world, and its strong support for close cooperation with Arab countries and Europeans in renewable energy projects. Stressing that integrating efforts with partners in Europe can help strengthen the production capacity of Arab countries in the field of green hydrogen and strengthen the capacity to be one of the main suppliers of this promising source to the global level.

The Acting Minister of Transport highlighted that the workshop represented an opportunity for the exchange of expertise and experiences between the participating countries and would contribute to developing visions and practical plans to overcome the technical and economic challenges linked to the chain supply of green hydrogen, expressing its aspiration that the discussions will result in the development of an integrated framework that supports the creation of green hydrogen production stations and the infrastructure necessary for its transport and distribution , and achieving effective results benefiting the Arab people, thanks to the leadership of the Arab Academy for. Science, Technology and Maritime Transport for its initiative and its concern to enrich the Arab and international energy agenda. And the environment, which reflects the fulfillment of its role as a distinguished and pioneering Arab think tank that effectively contributes to addressing regional and international concerns, expressing Sudan's thanks to friends, partners, representatives of countries and major European institutions for their participation in this important project. event.

The workshop was held under the title “Preparation of an integrated study for the project of establishing the green hydrogen supply chain” within the framework of strengthening Arab-European cooperation in the field of clean energy, coinciding with the 37th session of the Council of Arab Ministers. of Transport and the 73rd session of the Executive Bureau of the Council and pursuant to the decision of the 22nd joint meeting of the technical committees on transport (the Secretariat) which was held. in September 2024.

The activities of the workshop saw the participation of His Excellency Minister Tariq Hosni – Minister of Transport and Communications of the State of Palestine, President of the 37th session of the Council of Arab Ministers of Transport, His Excellency Abdul Salam Hamid – Minister of Transport of the Republic of Yemen, His Excellency the Minister Plenipotentiary Dr. Bahjat Abu Al-Nasr – Director of the Department of Transport and Tourism at the Arab University, Mr. Francecalberto De Bari – Director General of the Northern Tirana Sea Ports Authority, His Excellency Prof. Dr. Ismail Abdel Ghaffar Ismail Farag President The Arab Academy of Science, Technology and Maritime Transport, as well as senior officials from the transport ministries of Arab countries, as well as as heads and directors of Arab organizations and unions involved in transport and logistics.

The workshop aimed to review the successful experiences of Arab countries in the field of green hydrogen, highlighting the pioneering experiences of Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Mauritania, Qatar, Morocco and Iraq. The visions of the League of Arab States, the European Union and the Academy were also presented on the development of an integrated supply chain for green hydrogen as a step towards achieving sustainable development and strengthening of the sustainability of the transport sector in Arab countries.
