Camp Al-Nahda…one meal and I know the door to the organizations!! – Budgets – ✍️ Al-Tayeb Al-Makabrabi
Yesterday, a short winter day, was a long day for the delegation of the Khartoum Journalists Association in Nile State, whose executive office visited the locality of Atbara, inspecting numerous grounds for three days. We visited and carried out ten programs. one day, starting with the clean-up project, then the old fish market, the new fish market and the cattle market, then the dry port and the Nahda IDP camp, then the university wall project, the national radio and Khartoum International. Channel, the meeting with the executive director of the locality, and finally the graduation project of the mustanfari of the last batch of the Karama camps…
Each project or meeting requires a different angle from us, due to the effort and the new reality we have noticed in all these projects and meetings.
The city of Atbara, which grew and whose population increased to almost a million and a half, when it was only about three hundred thousand, instead of a single market, it became full of markets, and in addition to the three public hospitals, hospitals and dispensaries were crowded there, and instead of a refugee camp, there were tents and camps.
When we visited the Al-Nahda camp, made up of houses given by their owners to the displaced at the start of the exodus, then tents erected to shelter the deportees from the land port and schools, the inhabitants of the camp told us welcomed through their committee and insisted that we eat from their only meal, which a Mohsen named Abdul Samie provides daily, a meal that may sometimes not be enough for all residents. How can we sit and eat when we are in front of Sudanese people, with their customs and their generosity, who are generous with their one meal!!
Their condition, which we have seen and recounted, testifies to their need for more food, medicine, water and the opening of schools to educate their children.
An almost total absence of organizations, except for what we saw of tents containing 225 families, mostly from the sister state of Qatar, and only two Sudanese organizations. So where are the organizations and countries that shook our heads with the famine in Sudan? are they not looking for a door to bring their help, with the exception of the passage of Adrei, which opens the door to distortion and the supply of militias with weapons and equipment?
During our meeting with the executive director of the locality of Atbara, Mr. Osama Babakir Al-Labib, and we presented to him the situation of these people, he confirmed the interest of his locality for all the arrivals who lived in neighborhoods and entered the markets and those who lived in the camps. He revealed the efforts that had been made in this camp, providing drinking water from the Nile, distributing baskets and bags of flour and other supplies.
Al-Labib spoke about his local projects, including the interest in the organization of markets and the hygiene project, in which arrangements are made to improve conditions by introducing partnerships, changes and health projects and in spending them with local money, although some of them are federal affairs, which pay the salaries of workers until last October and prepare them for the major projects of the 25 year budget.
Rapid and successive developments and expansions here and there that adapt to all activities and professions, as well as the legalization and control of all dealers within the markets through controls for doing business, are all projects to which the locality of Atbara paid attention.
The Al-Nahda camp, according to what we have seen, the locality of Atbara, which bears other burdens, is unable to meet everything it needs and demands beyond the capacity of the locality , including its obligations. Therefore, what is expected is more organizations. to enter their line and provide for all their needs and fill the lack of food, tents, water, healthcare, classrooms, school supplies, etc.
God help everyone
