Federal Minister of Health, Dr. Haitham Muhammad Ibrahim, said the ministry's strategy is to reduce the mortality rate of premature newborns from 26 children per thousand births, describing this percentage as high which requires a strategy and interventions from the maternal and child health department of the ministry and specialist consultants and pediatricians. .

Dr Haitham, I am addressing a meeting of the Newborn Advisory Committee, led by Professor Issa Othman, members of the Newborn Advisory Committee, directors of United Nations offices, representatives of the Society Sudanese obstetricians and gynecologists, directors of public administrations. , and specialist consultant for children, women and obstetrics, at the Coral Hotel, Sudan today is going through difficult humanitarian conditions and major challenges that cast a shadow over all sectors, especially health , emphasizing that premature children are the most affected. Weakness and need for specialized medical care. He added that there are about 29 special care establishments for children (crèches), out of the 55 crèches that operated before the war. These units are only present in 23 localities, which is far from being the case. percentage of the newborn roadmap targets, as it states that there should be a crèche in 40% of localities by 2025 AD and in 90% of localities by 2030 AD.

Dr. Haitham noted that the ministry is committed to making more efforts to support the health care of premature infants and cooperating with international and regional organizations to increase support for this category, in line with the leaflet Sudan Roadmap for Neonatal Mortality, which has developed integrated strategies and effective interventions to reduce female and neonatal mortality.

For his part, the chairman of the Advisory Committee for Newborns, Professor Issa Othman, said that the mortality rate of premature babies is high and requires efforts from all to reduce this rate, noting that the meeting discussed the strategy and how to implement it, with the participation of organizations.
