A disappointing summit for the Sudanese – The face of truth – ✍️ Ibrahim Shaqlawi

Yesterday, Monday, the extraordinary Arab-Islamic summit concluded in the capital of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Riyadh, chaired by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, where he discussed the ongoing developments in the Gaza Strip and of the escalation of military operations in Lebanon. in light of the brutal Israeli aggression and the resulting humanitarian repercussions and threat as the scope of the conflict expands into a regional war.

The summit in this regard went well, but regarding the course of the war in Sudan, the summit was described as disappointing compared to the hopes of the Sudanese, because the Sudanese question was not included among the priorities discussion. The Sudanese hoped that the issue of the war in their country, led by the Rapid Support Militia, would receive the attention and solidarity of Arab and Islamic countries, especially after the widespread violations seen in the states the militia entered, notably in Khartoum, Darfur and Al-Jazeera State, where the death toll in the town of Al-Hilalia and neighboring villages on the day of the summit rose to 350 women, children and the elderly due to the siege imposed by the militia. civilians, in addition to direct fire on the population.

However, it appears that the appointment of the Sudanese Foreign Minister, Ali Youssef Al-Sharif, which coincided with the holding of the summit, had a negative impact on the lack of proper preparation of the Sudanese Foreign Ministry during the meeting. ministerial which preceded the summit. where it was expected that an agenda related to Sudan would be included to highlight the issue of war and the suffering of civilians, or at least in the final declaration, which did not mention Sudan. Therefore, the Sudanese expected solidarity and support from Arab and Islamic countries in the face of violations committed by rapid support militias and their repercussions on peace and stability in the region.

Despite this disappointing failure, the speech of the president of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, was sufficient and he insisted on participating despite the tragedy of the country. It was a good message in the mail from the summit and the world. as he expressed the sufferings of the Sudanese and praised the role of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in supporting the issues of the Arab nation and its support for the Palestinian cause and the return of the Syrian Golan. He also stressed the importance of condemning the practices of the Rapid Support Militia, which aims to destroy the Sudanese state, starve and displace the Sudanese population, in blatant disregard of international humanitarian law and international conventions and standards, and to commit crimes more serious than the crimes of the Israeli occupation in Gaza and Lebanon. He also assured during the summit that the great people of Sudan, with their history and civilization, and with the support and assistance of their brothers and friends, are able to emerge safely.

This summit necessarily reflects the commitment of Arab and Islamic countries to seek comprehensive, effective and lasting solutions to the crises in the region, as part of efforts to achieve peace, justice and justice for the affected peoples and their provide the necessary means. support so they can rise.

It was therefore hoped that the summit would allow real progress in the interest of the Sudanese, in addition to stabilizing the region and avoiding sinking into a regional war. But it is now necessary for the efforts of the Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs to continue to enlighten the world, through diplomatic missions, on the course of events and their evolution in Sudan. This is an important way to raise Sudan's voice to the international community to prevent the flow of arms to the militias through regional and international supporters, and for them to work towards solidarity and cooperation with Arab and Islamic countries to resolve Sudan's problems and achieve peace. , restore security and address challenges.

Regarding bilateral meetings and discussions, the most important meetings of President Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan took place with the Crown Prince of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Prince Mohammed bin Salman, on the sidelines of the summit. The meeting discussed developments in bilateral relations between Sudan and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and supported the prospects of joint cooperation between the two countries. Al-Burhan briefed the Saudi Crown Prince on the developments in Sudan, in the context of the crisis. The rebellion of rapid support militias against the state and its institutions, and the resulting violations and atrocities against civilians and the destruction of vital institutions and facilities in the country. The Saudi Crown Prince affirmed that the Kingdom stands with Sudan and supports its unity, security, stability and territorial integrity. He highlighted the Kingdom's willingness to help rebuild damaged institutions and facilities and support the Sudanese people in their efforts to achieve stability and security.

Review of this meeting shows the commitment of the two leaders to strengthen and deepen relations between Sudan and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and support efforts to achieve peace and stability in Sudan. This meeting reflects the genuine desire to strengthen bilateral cooperation and achieve common interests.

Observers believe that the meeting may have discussed the possibility of returning to the Jeddah platform, given that the Kingdom had previously confirmed that the parties must adhere to what was agreed on May 11 of the year last. Therefore, according to what we consider to be a reality, it is necessary for the Sudanese government to work in the near future to define its priorities and include the Sudanese issue in international forums and in upcoming summits. It must also continue to condemn countries involved in financing militias and prolonging the war, as well as parties that represent political and media support to justify their crimes against the Sudanese people.

May you always be well.
