Yesterday, Tuesday, the Ethiopian Telecommunications Company, Djibouti Telecommunications Company and Sudatel Telecommunications Group signed a memorandum of understanding to launch the “Horizon Fiber” initiative, which aims to connect the Horn of Africa to Europe and to Asia via terrestrial optical fiber. network.
The Ethiopian Telecommunications Company said – in a statement – that this strategic partnership aims to change the composition of digital infrastructure in the region, as it aims to provide more reliable and advanced connectivity, which strengthens digital transformation in Africa .
The release states that the “Horizon Fiber” initiative, which is based on the integration of resources and expertise shared between the three companies, will work to improve the speed and efficiency of data transfer and reduce the time of access, which will help provide high-quality Internet. services for businesses and individuals.
The statement added that the initiative will also help address challenges associated with submarine cables, which are sometimes prone to interruptions due to environmental factors or sabotage, causing costly repairs and service interruptions.
