The role of local government in managing development, providing basic services and raising awareness of preserving public and private property to ensure a sustainable future

Achieving sustainable integrated development and improving the quality of life of the population requires an active role of local authorities in organizing public affairs and providing the necessary basic services. Local governance is considered the basic structure of community development; it represents the simplest and most effective path to meet the basic needs of the population and achieve logical progress towards development and construction.

The role of local government in achieving development:

When local government plays an active role in organizing the internal affairs of the region, the provision of necessary services is ensured more efficiently. Local government contributes to the improvement of the economic and social environment of local communities through:

Provide basic services:

This includes the provision of safe drinking water and sanitation, electricity, public transport, health care and primary education. The provision of these services contributes effectively to improving the quality of life of the population and to stimulating economic and social growth that results from traditional agriculture, improved agriculture and small industries such as (dairying), fruit canning and drying, small leather industries and handicrafts.

Empowering the local community:

Local government encourages community participation and allows residents to become partners in the decision-making process, which improves transparency and accountability and strengthens a sense of ownership and responsibility.

Removing barriers and promoting social justice:

The local government strives to eliminate obstacles to development by not imposing high taxes, asphalting roads leading to major cities, market places and the port, developing infrastructure (health centres, hospitals, schools, training and rehabilitation centres) and providing equal economic and educational opportunities. It also seeks to distribute resources equitably to ensure the achievement of comprehensive development that promotes equality among different groups.

Therefore, the path to progress is: in the role of local government in building a more developed society

Achieving sustainable development and building societies based on the principles of justice and social solidarity. It highlights the efforts of local authorities to provide adequate infrastructure and improve basic services. It is highlighted for efforts to remove obstacles to development and achieve equitable distribution of resources, particularly with regard to land and its equitable use.

It shows how local governance can be a key factor in promoting sustainable development and achieving overall progress in local communities by establishing the value of awareness of risks arising from conflict and other natural and environmental aspects.
