Khartoum Governor: Calls for creation of fund for state reconstruction

Federal Minister of Government: The government will mobilize the energies of the state, the private sector, organizations and society to rebuild Khartoum.

Acting Governor of Khartoum Ahmed Othman revealed the reasons for holding the workshop for the reconstruction of Khartoum State despite the continuation of the war in the state in its various localities, indicating that planning and collecting information is an arduous process that requires time and expansion of the discussion circle, and that the continuation of the war does not mean the cessation of life, and that the progress of the armed forces in all fields… The axes go hand in hand with the process of restoring services in the areas that have been cleared of rebellion as an urgent need, while planning a strategic vision as long as Khartoum remains the capital of the country, unless the people see otherwise.

The governor said in his speech today Tuesday in Port Sudan, at the workshop of the reconstruction and recovery program, amidst a wide participation of interested people, that we have started the program of rebuilding some water and electricity stations, hospitals and communications, and the rebroadcasting of the Khartoum channel and radio, but this effort is insignificant compared to the scale of the great destruction that has affected the state. He added that the Khartoum State Development Conference, which was held a few days before the war, will serve as a basis for the development of a reconstruction plan, and that reconstruction does not only mean rebuilding buildings, but rather includes restoring national cohesion and strengthening the social fabric.

The governor called for the creation of a fund for the reconstruction of the state, while a number of institutions announced their financial contributions to the fund.

For his part, Federal Minister of Government, Engineer Muhammad Kurtkila Saleh, said the federal government would advance efforts arising from the workshop's recommendations and mobilize the energies of the private sector, organizations and society to support the reconstruction of the state.
