Democracy is Sudan's only bet – Masarat – ✍️ Dr. Naglaa Hussein Al-Makabrabi

Democracy is a political system that relies on popular participation in governance, where people's representatives are elected to make political and legislative decisions. It is considered a political system that aims to achieve justice, equality and freedom for all.

Democracy is considered a system that protects human rights and individual freedoms. It also allows citizens to participate in governance through elections and express their opinions, and promotes economic development through the equitable distribution of wealth.

There are several types of direct democracy, i.e. citizens participate directly in decision-making, indirect democracy, i.e. citizens participate through their representatives, and of representative democracy, that is to say that representatives represent the people in decision-making.

External interference in internal affairs is considered one of the most serious challenges Sudan faces in achieving democracy, alongside poverty and unemployment and their impact on political stability, racial and religious discrimination and their impact on justice and equality.

*From what I mentioned, democracy is Sudan's first challenge after the war, and it must be achieved. The existence of a clear constitution that promotes human rights. A parliamentary system that represents the people, separation of executive, legislative and judicial powers, free and fair elections and party pluralism.

There are economic requirements, namely a diversified and stable economy, equitable distribution of wealth, employment opportunities accessible to all, promotion of education and health and solid infrastructure.

Perhaps the most important of these are the social demands that aim to promote tolerance and peaceful coexistence, protect human rights, improve education and awareness, citizen participation in the political process and to strengthen the role of women and young people.

When we talk about legal requirements, we must have a law that guarantees human rights, an independent judiciary, protection of property rights, promoting transparency and accountability and fighting corruption.

The international demands aim to strengthen international relations, join international organizations, seek support from the international community, strengthen economic cooperation and resolve disputes peacefully.

*The cultural demands are the promotion of democratic culture, national dialogue, tolerance and peaceful coexistence, as well as strengthening the role of the media and civic education.

Here is the important question: will Sudan succeed in establishing democracy after the war????

Yes, it succeeds, and it can achieve this by providing appropriate mechanisms that enable the strengthening of political and democratic consciousness, the formation of political parties and civil movements, the definition of fundamental democratic objectives and principles, popular uprising, the formation of a transitional government that represents the different parties and the drafting of a new constitution that promotes human rights.

This can only be achieved through the formation of a parliament that represents the people, the establishment of an independent judiciary, the establishment of fair electoral institutions, the promotion of free media and the holding of free and fair elections. and there must be a fair distribution of power between institutions, as well as the promotion of human rights and justice, as well as the fight against corruption and the promotion of… Transparency.

*Stability can only be achieved by strengthening political stability, political participation for all, education and democratic consciousness, strengthening international relations and supporting the international community.

From what you mentioned, Sudanese society needs to be made aware of the importance of democracy and the need to achieve it. How to practice it rationally and its importance in stabilizing the country and changing society. This is where the main role of the media lies in spreading the culture of democracy and its correct concepts and in presenting the experiences of countries that have succeeded in this area. Democracy will remain Sudan's only bet. after the war.

May you live long 🌹
