The Acting Federal Minister of Health, Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, held several meetings on the sidelines of his participation in the World Health Organization General Assembly meetings, the most important of which was the meeting with the funds supporting health in Sudan. to activate joint work and ensure the implementation of projects, the first meeting having taken place with the overall support of the “Global Fund”, he met with Dr. Mark at the office headquarters, accompanied by the director of the Africa department and the manager from Sudan's file to the Fund. The meeting discussed the support given to Sudan for diseases such as “malaria, AIDS and tuberculosis”, in addition to strengthening the health system for the coming years, since the support amounts to 152 million dollars , indicating its thanks to the medical team who prepare the grant and organize its implementation with partners UNICEF and the United Nations Development Fund.
The minister revealed a pledge of additional support in areas such as emergencies, and another in anticipation of Sudan's situation and circumstances, emphasizing the ministry's commitment to providing medical and health services related to the three diseases in all states.
The minister also held an expanded meeting with the Global Vaccine Alliance (GAVI), which supports Sudan every year with around $80 million for vaccination programs and supports the health system with activities, stressing that the meeting ensured support for children and the provision of vaccines. added that the implementation of the program has begun and we hope that we can fill the gaps represented by the difficulties in vaccinating children in all states, as well as saving operational costs related to their delivery. the discussion addressed the need to find safe routes to transport them through the Sudanese government mechanisms and beyond government-specified borders.
The Minister referred to the meeting with the United Nations AIDS Program regarding the interruption of medicines for people living with the disease due to the looting of all medicines from the headquarters of the National Supplies Fund, noting his thanks to the program for his support for this operation. segment and that they receive their treatment in this difficult period that the country is going through because of the war.
In another context, the minister met with the director of operations of Médecins Sans Frontières, and discussed the role of the organization and the need for coordination with the government and the ministry and full compatibility in travel and work on the ground, stressing that the ministry has promised to facilitate procedures in accordance with what the Humanitarian Aid Commission decides, and that the organization is committed to the paths traced by the government at all levels. The meeting also discussed the problems faced by the teams in field work, particularly the attacks the organization has been exposed to. by the Rapid Support Forces on the island and in a number of areas in the Darfur region, which has compromised the possibility of continuing its work in the locations where it is established.
In a related context, the Minister met with the Director of UNICEF, Ted Chaiban, United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, who discussed the major role of the organization, particularly in the field of vaccination and of Child Nutrition, highlighting that cases of malnutrition have increased in Sudan in the recent period and it was agreed to implement various interventions to reduce cases and make the most of the 63 grant million dollars from the World Bank through UNICEF to strengthen the health system through basic health care.
It should be noted that the Permanent Representative of Sudan in Geneva, Ambassador Hassan Hamed, and the Deputy Representative, Ambassador Badraldin, played a major role in the coordination and arrangement.
Acting Federal Minister of Health, Dr. Haitham Muhammad Ibrahim, met with Director of the Middle East Network (EMPHNET), Dr. Muhannad Al-Nsour, on the sidelines of the 77th General Assembly of the World Health Organization health in Geneva, highlighted the existence of the AMPENT and Sudan agreement, which represents training in the field epidemiology program, which began in 2016, to strengthen the health system.
Haitham stressed that the objective of the meeting is to develop a common vision to place the Sudanese health agenda at the top of the agenda of donors and partners at the regional and global levels in international and regional forums.
The minister thanked EMVENT and its director for coordinating and organizing the seminar, which took place on social media platforms, with the participation of more than 500 people and the participation of expert Salman Rawaf and the director of the Global Health Bureau in Sudan, Dr. Shibl Sahbani, because the seminar reflected the health situation in Sudan and the scale of the needs.
The minister noted that it was agreed to allocate a special period to support Sudan and Palestine during the conference and to present the reality of health in international forums with the aim of finding support, indicating that this is compatible with supporting health in Palestine. which is attacked by the Israeli enemy. He added that it was agreed to form a preliminary committee to draft documents so that there would be high participation at the conference.
