Invest in culture and ignore civil servants – on a quiet fire – ✍️ Khaled Muhammad al -Baqir

⭕ Shendi is one of the Sudanese cities, which is characterized by its ancient history and its culture, but it is confronted with major challenges in the field of arts and culture. Shendi’s cultural scene suffers from a serious shortage of platforms and resources that allow the exchange of artistic experiences and the development of creativity. This deficiency was not limited to the artistic scene, but also assigned the cultural identity of the city and contributed to the emergence of a state of emptiness and stagnation.

⭕ Cultural platforms such as theaters, exhibitions and cultural centers are considered the arteries that nourish the artistic movement in any society. It provides the appropriate environment for artists to express their ideas and talents, and allows the public to interact with the arts and to find out about various cultures. But reality in Shendi reflects a different image; The city does not have these vital platforms, making it a place that lacks innovation and creativity in the arts.

⭕ This gap in the cultural form of the city contributes to the deterioration of the level of artistic creativity and the absence of cultural events that can enrich society and improve artistic consciousness. The graphics, poetry, music and pieces are all artistic forms that require appropriate environments to develop and develop, and the absence of these environments directly means the loss of many talents that may appear in the city.

⭕ It is regrettable that the real reasons for this negligence are not only a lack of financial resources, but also because of the ignorance of officials of local and state agencies of culture in general. Culture is not only entertainment, but rather an essential element which contributes to the construction of society, to the promotion of identity and to the strengthening of social ties. This ignorance hangs on surprise, because investing in culture can have multiple positive effects which include improving the level of education, the development of social consciousness and the improvement of the local economy through the arts.

⭕ Treating this problem requires integrated efforts from the government, civil society and artists themselves. Managers should achieve the importance of culture and the need to find artistic spaces to support artists and creators. It is also necessary to encourage dialogue between artists and the public, and to organize events that improve culture and allow people to interact directly with the arts.

⭕ Shendi suffers from a serious shortage of cultural resources that negatively affect the local artistic scene. The negligence of culture by civil servants is an indication of not recognizing its importance. Society is necessary to evolve as a whole to achieve a real change by improving culture and the arts, which contributes to promoting the cultural identity of the city and restoring its vitality and creativity.
