1990 – U.S. President George Bush orders U.S. warships to immediately enforce United Nations trade sanctions against Iraq following the invasion of Kuwait, using force if necessary to prevent goods from flowing in and out of Iraq and Kuwait.

1999 – An earthquake measuring 7.4 on the Richter scale hits northern Turkey, killing 17,000 and injuring 44,000.
2010 – Israel demolishes all homes in the Palestinian village of Al-Araqib for the fourth time after its residents rebuilt it three times.
2013 – Police forces stormed the Al-Fath Mosque after its siege and arrested protesters inside, in what is known as the Ramses II events.
2015 – A bombing in Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, kills at least 21 people and injures more than 100.
2017 – At least 13 people were killed and at least 80 others were injured following a crash that crushed pedestrians on La Rambla street in the Spanish city of Barcelona.
