Justice in Sudan: a dream that must be realized – something for the fatherland – ✍️ M.

In our world today, where events accelerate and interest is linked, the law remains the high thread which weaves the fabric of societal life and maintains its cohesion. It is not only a group of texts and materials, but rather the spirit of justice that applies in the arteries of civilized countries. The twelfth September of each year, we celebrate the International Law Day, an opportunity that is not limited to celebrating the laws of law and their noble profession, but rather an opportunity to contemplate the importance of the rule of law in our lives, and the renewal of the alliance to protect and strengthen it.

And for all Sudanese laws, which are faced with serious challenges to reach justice, we raise the hat of respect and appreciation. In the light of the current circumstances that Sudan goes through, their role becomes more important than ever. These are the laws, the defenders of rights and the pillars that the future state will be based, a state in which the law prevails and is triumphed by justice.

When we talk about the law, the image of courts, judges and lawyers can come to mind. But the law exceeds this. It is a philosophy of life and a precious system that regulates relations between individuals and the State, guaranteeing all its rights and duties. It is he who protects individual property, guarantees freedom of expression, prevents tyranny and fixes boundaries in power. Without right, society becomes a forest governed by the strongest and the rights of the weak are trampled on.

The rule of law is not a luxury, but rather a prerequisite for the realization of sustainable development and the construction of a stable and prosperous company. The investor does not provide his investments in a country that does not guarantee his rights, and the citizen does not feel safe if the law does not apply to everyone as well. The law is the framework that stimulates creativity, unleashes energies and makes a healthy environment for growth and progress.

Talking about justice in Sudan bears prisons and challenges. After years of conflicts and disorders, the construction of a rule of law has become an absolute priority. Political and social life cannot be straightened without consolidating the principle that everyone is equal before the law. This requires intense efforts on all parties and requires real political will and concerted societal efforts. The current circumstances, despite its challenges, represent the opportunity to rebuild the State on new and solid foundations.

The most important steps to achieve this by reforming and cleaning judicial institutions, the judiciary must be the main pillar of the rule of law. This requires complete reform of the justice system to ensure its full independence from the executive and legislative authorities. Enough and fair judges must be appointed, the restructuring of the courts and the activity and transparency mechanisms are activated. In addition, the fight against corruption within these institutions is decisive to restore the confidence of citizens.

Drafting of a permanent constitution which guarantees the rights and freedoms, so that the rule of law cannot be rectified without a permanent and flexible constitution which defines the powers of the leaders and guarantees the rights of the convicted people. The Constitution must guarantee the separation of the three authorities (executive, legislative and judicial) and guarantee fundamental freedoms such as freedom of expression, the assembly and the training of associations, in addition to property rights and equality before the law. The constitution must be the product of a broad societal dialogue in which all the specters of the Sudanese people participate.

Due to the serious violations of which Sudan has witnessed, it is necessary to activate the transient justice mechanisms. Its role is not limited to holding those responsible for previously responsible crimes, but also includes the reparation of victims of violations, the reform of security and military institutions and the documentation of the facts to ensure that they are not repeated.

The construction of a rule of law in Sudan is faced with major challenges, including the presence of armed groups, the lack of security stability and economic deterioration. However, the will of the Sudanese people to change is the main engine to achieve this goal. The international community can play a support role by providing technical and financial assistance and by paying pressure to ensure the commitment to the principles of the rule of law.

Transitional justice plays a central role at this stage. It is not only a mechanism to hold those responsible for previous violations, but rather a complete process for the restoration of the social fabric and the restoration of confidence between citizens and the State. This is an opportunity to treat injuries from the past and define firm foundations for a future in which errors are not repeated.

In the midst of tensions and conflicts, the law remains the garden of peace. It is a safe space in which conflicts can be resolved peacefully and disputes transcended by dialogue. When people trust the legal system, they do not use violence or revenge. And when everyone sees that the law is applied fairly, they feel belonging and they are reinforced by a feeling of citizenship.

The construction of a culture of respect for the law is not limited to governments and institutions, but rather to a joint social responsibility. You should leave family and school and enter all aspects of our life. Respect for traffic fire, not relating to the rights of others and adhering to contracts, are all simple aspects of a firm legal culture.

On this World Law Day, let’s renew the alliance to be a court guard. And do everything in our power, individuals and institutions, to consolidate the principles of the rule of law in all corners of our society. Because we are not only protecting rights and freedoms, but we build a better future, for our future generations.

We hope that the law will flourish in Sudan, and that security and security will return to all its parts, and that the law becomes the sword and the shield that protects everyone. There, where the law prevails, the flowers of freedom and prosperity open.
