Khartoum governor reveals housing projects hit by looting, vandalism, calls for urgent action
The Governor of Khartoum, Mr. Ahmed Othman Hamza, revealed during his visit today to the Administration of the Housing and Development Fund that the peripheral projects of the Fund, particularly in the Al-Fath region, have been exposed to widespread looting and vandalism, including the theft of doors, windows and bricks, in addition to the destruction of roofs in an attempt to steal iron.
During the meeting attended by the Secretary General of the Khartoum State Government, Mr. Al-Hadi Abdel-Sayed, and the Director of the Housing Fund, Engineer Murtada Mahjoub, the governor asked the Fund management to prepare a comprehensive report on the extent of destruction and conditions of the projects, with emphasis on property, equipment and machinery in safe areas, in addition to the rights of contractors.
He also called on the governor to present a vision for the resumption of work in safe areas and to study the possibility of adopting rapid projects to compensate for the lack of housing. He stressed the importance of restoring the electronic system of the Housing Fund as quickly as possible, since it constitutes the fundamental reference for preserving the rights of citizens and the Fund.
The governor highlighted that the Fund's projects played a major role in accommodating displaced citizens from areas where militias were present in search of safety, since the Al-Hara 76 multi-story complex accommodates more than 5,000 families.
The governor also listened to a detailed report from the fund manager on the precautionary measures taken by the fund management to protect assets, construction materials and electricity, in addition to a review of the financial situation and the value of assets of unfinished projects in Khartoum. and Karari.
