Media and slum: From the victory of the ego to the speech of the hatred and the stability of Sudan ✍️ Taha Harun Hamed

In Arab societies, many challenges were obvious in the influence of the media, the problems of slums and the spread of hatred speech. Where society is faced with complex challenges to solve these problems and how to solve them in a manner that guarantees social and economic stability, whether at the level of individuals or states. And, it is important to understand the role of the media in the creation of these negative standards and how to correct the path through effective policies and innovative means to solve the main problems such as slums, fragmentation of entities, families and threats of hate discourse.
Media and slums:
The slums represent one of the most important urban problems which affect the quality of life in many countries. The media play an important role in training the public perceptions of this problem, because the media can help highlight the suffering of the inhabitants of slums and to determine the deep causes of this phenomenon. But in some cases, the media can selectively cover these problems, which leads to false perceptions which affect the awareness of the society of the real confrontation of these problems.
Summary residents can be represented negatively or efforts to improve their conditions are reduced, which improves feelings of despair and loss of confidence among citizens. Consequently, the media should assume the responsibility to raise awareness and provide realistic and lasting solutions to improve the living environment of citizens in these areas and how to fight against these phenomena
Self-guest and propagation of hatred speech:
In the context of the influence of the media, it appears that the phenomenon of “self-victory” and “concentration around the ego” has become common in certain media, because some seek to improve the image of the individual or the group to the detriment of the other. This can cause intolerance, intimidation and discrimination in societies, and thus leads to the spread of hate speech.
This is obvious in many Arab countries where the media is used to intensify social and political differences, which threatens the stability of societies and increases internal tensions. When the media is a tool to perpetuate divisions and spread hatred, this greatly affects individuals and society as a whole, and increases religious, ethnic, political and regional conflicts
How to fight against violations:
To remedy violations resulting from the media, it is necessary to follow a complete approach based on several strategies:
Consciousness and media education: the media must adopt messages aimed at improving tolerance and mutual understanding. Thanks to educational programs and community seminars, content can be provided which improves common human values such as justice, equality, rights, duties, the right to education, mobility and other
Encourage responsible media: It is important that clear ethical criteria for journalists and media workers are established, so that the media can have a positive role in the dissemination of truth and the confrontation of hatred speeches.
Promote laws and legislation:
It is necessary to develop laws which regulate the work of the media and limit its exploitation of the speech of hatred or the incentive to violence. These laws must be fair and respect freedom of expression at the same time.
Cooperation with civil society organizations:
Civil society organizations can play an active role in media monitoring and play it responsible for violations, in addition to providing support for people affected by hatred speech or suffering from the effects of slums.
Sudan stability:
In terms of states, resolution of slum problems and negative speech requires an integrated strategy, which guarantees security and stability in societies. In the context of the “Sudan”, this includes improving infrastructure, the provision of good social services and activating the role of the media in improving the concepts of good citizenship.
Treatment is not only limited to legal and media aspects, but special attention must be paid to the development aspect, by implementing projects aimed at improving slums and providing job opportunities and youth education, in order to allow them to build a better future.
at the end:
The media, in all its forms, are a powerful tool for forming public opinion. Consequently, it is necessary that the media are responsible for effectively addressing the problems of slums and the spread of hatred discourse, and contributes to the construction of a society that prevails in peace and stability. To achieve this objective, the government, the media and civil society must cooperate to provide practical and sustainable solutions that improve social and economic stability in Sudan.
