I had the opportunity to visit Eritrea in July 2022 and conduct an extensive press interview with His Excellency Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki Abraham.
I have witnessed on the ground the experience of localizing care within the State of Eritrea, through the construction of government hospitals in various parts of the country, in its rural and urban areas, according to a unique model, the same hospital in the capital, Asmara, is found in the cities and capitals of the regions, with the same staff and the same level of integrated therapeutic service.
The financial capacities of the Eritrean state are very limited compared to Sudan, but it employs optimal employment in a fair and equitable manner.
In Sudan, we have raised the slogan of localizing treatment in the country and eliminating the bill for treatment abroad, but we have completely failed to implement this slogan on the ground.
After the outbreak of the war, the city of Port Sudan was surprised to find that it was the administrative capital, without preparation and without any presentation, so it was forced to assume responsibility without hesitation.
Port Sudan city has good infrastructure including health and treatment facilities.
Prince Othman Digna Hospital is one of the integrated treatment institutions that provides treatment services at reasonable rates compared to private hospitals that do not consider the economic conditions of the patients.
What distinguishes the management of Digna Hospital is its lack of interest in government support, even if limited, and has therefore adopted the approach of partnerships with the private sector, which has contributed significantly to the provision of in-kind and financial support.
Private and public companies have a specific percentage of their social responsibility budgets that are supposed to be allocated to the corrective aspect.
The Sudanese Mineral Resources Corporation has funds allocated for community support with the aim of determining specific percentages to support health facilities, but Daqta hospital has not received its share of these funds.
Some businessmen and financiers have clearly made their contribution by providing financial and in-kind assistance to the hospital, and most of them have preferred to keep their contributions away from the cameras.
The director of Prince Othman Digna Hospital, Dr. Muhammad Kamal Ahmed Musa, was able, through his skills and distinguished relationships with all segments of society, to achieve a major breakthrough in convincing donors to make their contributions.
What caught my attention in the policy of the hospital director is that he communicates his needs to the financing body and leaves it the choice, and he does not at all prefer to receive financial contributions directly to cover up doubts and doubts. matter that counts in his favor and increases his balance.
The actors who contribute to the rehabilitation and development of the hospital are many and varied, and it is difficult to list them without being forgotten. They are all respected and appreciated, and may God reward them.
Federal Minister of Health Dahitham Mohamed Ibrahim continued to pay daily attention to what was happening in the corridors of the hospital and did his best to rehabilitate and develop the hospital, which had a good moral impact among the workers.
