Para: a strategic key and a turning point in the Battle of Sudan – something for the fatherland – ✍️ Mr. Salah Gharibi
The war in progress in Sudan is one of the most complex conflicts in modern history, where geography, politics and history overlap to form a plate of battles that define the future of the country. In the midst of these battles, certain geographic points which do not represent simple spaces on the map are emerged, but rather strategic axes which modify the balance of power and go correctly to the path of war. Para in the north of Kordofan is one of these points, and it can be the most important at this stage.
Para’s control is not only a tactical victory or a transit military gain for the Sudanese armed forces, but rather a strategic stage which redefines the security and military scene of the country. Bara, because of her location, was a starting point for security threats that were aimed at the capital, Khartoum, in particular the city of Omdurman. Suicide steps have been launched from this region, threatening the life of civilians and vital sites. The safe villages west of the white Nile adhesive tape also suffered from continuous encroachments. With the army and the joint forces of Barra, this page is folded down threats, the capital becomes safer and the citizens of these villages feel reassured after years of fear.
The city of Para is known as “gara” of the Grande Western region, which includes Kordofan and Darfour. This description is not only a metaphor, but rather a strategic fact. Para is a central connection point between northern Sudan and its West, and controls the main feeding routes. Army control means cutting the arteries of the supply of the region’s rebellion forces and isolating them from the open desert which provided them with a safe refuge and a means of receiving support. This insulation has no logistical effect, but has a deep moral and psychological effect.
When the rebellion forces are besieged and the supply lines are cut, they become in a low defensive position and their ability to launch attacks. This position attempts the tribes and local groups, which suffered from the oppression of the rebellion, to declare their position behind the army. Confidence in the army’s ability to protect civilians and restore security is reinforced by its position and encourages to join its ranks, which accelerates the pace of progress and reduces losses.
The loss of Bara represented a painful blow for the militia, and therefore their reactions were full of tears and aspects, as it is said. These tears are not only a city, but rather the loss of a strategic center which is the key to their operations in the region. Bara had a safe starting base for their operations in Kordofan and Darfur, and facilitated control of the surrounding areas. With its fall, their plans become more complicated and their forces are in a critical position.
This victory increases the morale of the Sudanese army and strengthens the confidence of the people in it. Bara’s restoration process has shown that the army is able to plan strategic and carry out complex operations to achieve its objectives. This achievement is not the end, but it is the beginning of a new stage of the war, in which the army is likely, and the victory is close to never.
Despite this great victory, future challenges cannot be ignored. Bara completely secures it requires securing the roads leading to it, to prevent any militia from restoring them. In addition, this achievement can increase the intensity of battles in neighboring areas such as Darfur and Western Kordofan, where the militia will try to compensate for its loss. But more importantly, it is the need to restore basic services to the population and repair the affected infrastructure. The support of the local population of the army is an essential pillar to win the complete victory, and this support only comes from offering security, stability and basic services.
In conclusion, the battle of Para proves that geography always plays a decisive role in wars. A small town can be a key to freeing an entire region and a turning point in a long and complex conflict. Bara’s restoration is the victory of the army, the Sudanese people, and an important stage towards the restoration of the country’s security and stability.
