The President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Lieutenant General *Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan* met today with the Director-General of the World Health Organization, Dr. Tedros Adhanom, accompanied by Dr. Hanan Hassan Balkhi, Director-General of the World Health Organization for the Eastern Mediterranean Region. This was in the presence of the Federal Minister of Health, Dr. Haitham Muhammad Ibrahim, and the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Hussein Al-Amin.
The Minister of Health said in a press release that the visit of the Director-General of the World Health Organization to Sudan was full of many programs, as he visited a number of health institutions, shelters and the Humanitarian Aid Commission, and held talks with a number of state officials, fully focused on the commitment of the World Health Organization to continue its work in supporting health institutions in Sudan and the need to open border crossings with neighboring countries to facilitate the arrival of humanitarian aid to people affected by the crisis. war. Noting that the director of the organization promised to increase the support allocated to Sudan.
For his part, Dr. Tadros indicated that the meeting with the President of the Sovereign Council was fruitful and constructive.
He briefed him on the results of his two-day visit to Sudan, during which he reviewed the needs of the Sudanese health sector. He added that he thanked the President of the Sovereignty Council for the cooperation of the Sudanese government with international organizations through. its agreement to open humanitarian corridors to facilitate the arrival of aid convoys to those who deserve it. Adhanom said that the first team is the pillar of proof. He stressed Sudan's commitment to facilitating the work of the World Health Organization so that it can play its role. role of supporting the health sector in the country.
He stressed the government's willingness to use Merowe airport and some other airports by organizations to help deliver what citizens need, knowing that Merowe is the closest route to deliver aid to the Darfur regions.
In addition, Dr. Hanan Hassan Balkhi, director of the World Health Organization in the Eastern Mediterranean region, explained that the organization would work in coordination with the regional office to rehabilitate some hospitals in Sudan and find financial and technical support for health institutions that were struggling and damaged by the war.
