Sudan's Opportunity Before the General Assembly – The Face of Truth – ✍️ Ibrahim Shaqlawi
The visit of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan of the Sudan to New York comes to participate in the annual work of the United Nations General Assembly on the 26th of this month… to deliver Sudan's address to the members… in accordance with the proposed schedule of meetings of the seventy-ninth session… This important participation comes in extreme and complex circumstances for the Sudanese and their Government… in light of a brutal war since April last year, in which the country has lost security, peace and stability… and many economic resources… in addition to the exacerbation of displacement… and migration out of the country. This is in addition to the widespread violations to which civilians continue to be exposed. in a number of cases, from the Sudanese states by the rebels of the Rapid Support Forces who attempted to seize power… following a failed coup supported by some internal political forces and countries in the region… The important thing is that President Al- Burhan's speech before the United Nations General Assembly is this time in light of the international organization's appreciated interest in the Sudanese issue, it falls short of the popular ambition and aspirations of the Sudanese government. Their government is looking forward to an active role from the United Nations that will help them get out of the war and enter into peace… starting with describing it correctly… in addition to respecting the sovereignty of the country… and the position of the army In the defense of the country and its national unity in accordance with international law, two high-ranking United Nations delegations visited Sudan in recent days, led individually by the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ms. Amina Mohamed and the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ramtane Lamamra, reviewed the humanitarian situation in the country and the efforts made by the government to open safe corridors to deliver humanitarian aid to citizens, considering that this aid contributes to the relief of Sudanese citizens who have been affected by the atrocities committed by the rebels of the Rapid Support Forces. They commended the Sudanese government, which has shown great cooperation with the United Nations in delivering humanitarian aid by opening an agreement. number of relief crossings… including the one at Adre on the border with Chad… despite the apprehension of the Sudanese government about this crossing in anticipation of supplies to the rebels which could contribute to prolonging the war and increasing the intensity of the fighting. the conflict and the suffering of civilians… However, the government cooperated and opened it… in order to cut short any negative discourse about its failure to save its people… The Director-General of the World Health Organization – Tedros Adhanom – also visited Sudan in a delegation that included – Hanan Hassan Balkhi – Director-General of the World Health Organization in the Eastern Mediterranean Province… They visited a number of health facilities, shelters and the Humanitarian Aid Commission and affirmed the world. The commitment of the World Health Organization to continue its work in supporting Sudan and health institutions… They also welcomed Sudan's commitment to facilitate the work of the World Health Organization so that it can play its role in supporting the health sector in the country… as it confirmed that the government is ready to use Merowe airport and some other airports by organizations to help provide what citizens need. The delegation also committed to rehabilitating some hospitals in Sudan and providing financial and technical support to health facilities damaged by the war. We can say that the visit of the two delegations was of great importance because the United Nations was able to do so. During which we will determine the extent of Sudan's cooperation with the United Nations organization, as well as Sudan's need for security and the extent of its willingness. to support humanitarian efforts to provide relief to its people and alleviate their suffering in Sudan and outside Sudan in countries of asylum. The international organization must also respond to the demands of the Sudanese people and their government by condemning all the violations it has committed. Supporting the rebel forces against civilians and their disrespect for international law. As well as the need to find solutions to the Sudanese crisis, to stop the war and to end the suffering of the Sudanese. Jeddah Platform. As well as the importance of mobilizing all donors and active countries to address the humanitarian issue in Sudan as a priority… away from conflicts of interest and the intersection of regional and international agendas… Therefore, a number of experts believe that it is necessary for President Al-Burhan's speech before the General Assembly to include these priorities… in addition to the importance of explaining the vision of Sudan that he presented to the mediators regarding the end of the war, the establishment of security and peace, and the transition to today. Then… It is also important to emphasize the most important demands of the Sudanese, namely to condemn the parties that are working to prolong the war by continuing to support the rebel forces, which are some countries in the region… while emphasizing that the flow of this support will contribute to fueling the conflict not only in Sudan but in the entire African region, especially in the turbulent Horn of Africa, full of regional and international disputes and ambitions. in addition to the threats of failure of the agricultural season in Sudan, which will affect all neighboring countries that depend on food supplies from Sudan, in addition to the cessation of international trade through the passages between Sudan and its neighbors, which contributed to this. the stability of the economy of Sudan and the economies of a number of neighboring countries. Therefore, the truth remains in emphasizing that Sudan has broad opportunities in the United Nations General Assembly… during this session to achieve a number of gains and goals if preparations are made. It is good that attention has been paid to the suffering of these people… while the Sudanese are eagerly awaiting the holding of a high-level meeting on Sudan during this seventy-ninth session of the United Nations General Assembly to pressure the rebels to end the war and adhere to the Jeddah Declaration signed on May 11 last year… in addition to the importance of ensuring the Sudanese-Sudanese political dialogue and support for the government of national and non-partisan competence, which is expected to be announced in the coming period to move Sudan from a state of war to peace, security and stability.
May you always be well..
