The decision to fire Farfour…a spark in the consciousness of Sudanese art – Masareb Al-Dhay – ✍️ Dr. Muhammad Tabidi

If art becomes narrow, judgment on it will be lost, its glory will collapse and the light will be extinguished in its art.
Return art to the faithful people, for it is the language of the nation and the keeper of the pulse of its times.
The artist Najm El-Din Al-Fadil, president of the Union of Musical Professions, took the decision to dismiss the artist Jamal Farfour after a fiery statement from him, repeated in several forums. A decision that inflamed the song community and did not find him a single supporter, but rather triggered a massive wave of discontent among artists and the public, because Farfour was not just a passing artist in the sky of Sudanese song, but rather a symbol that generations were associated with, and his voice stretched like a bridge between the past and the present.
Jamal Farfour is one of the veteran voices who have etched their place in the national memory. He lived with the greats and carried the torch of authentic art at a time when the light was almost extinguished. He has a refined artistic sense that allows him to choose words and interpret them with a sincerity that comes from the heart and settles into consciousness. When he sings the songs of the bag, he breathes life into the heritage and forces generations to listen to him with respect.
As for the person behind the artist, it is Jamal Mustafa Farfour, the chivalrous, hospitable and devoted man who opened the doors of his home and his heart to his lovers. He hosted us more than once, and I was and still am a big fan of him as an artist, brother and friend. Despite the concerns of life and his advanced age, Farfour continued to receive us with his usual smile, neither arrogant nor condescending, as if time had only increased his humility and human warmth.
I remember that when his albums were rare on the cassette market, he would give us copies from his private library with unforgettable generosity, and we would bypass Brother Muhammad Awad, his art agent, to go straight to Farfour, and he never minded, but rather received us with open arms and a smile bigger than the art itself.
He participated with us in humanitarian initiatives, donated his concert income and supported the community with kindness and joy. He combined the spirit of the artist, the generosity of the human being and the vitality of the athlete on the field.
What Farfour said may have been fresh in the minds of many artists, but they did not have the courage to reveal it, because he is an honest voice even in times of disagreement.
Therefore, I hope that the Musical Professions Union will review its decisions, not out of courtesy to Farfour, but out of concern for the prestige of the union itself, so that it does not lose the respect of those to whom it belongs. Art is not rewarded with punishment, but with wisdom, and criticism is rewarded not with rejection, but with dialogue.
I will write to the country until my last breath
