It is no longer possible to postpone the completion of transitional government institutions, led by the Legislative Council. The government of the Nyala militia, supported by regional and local axes, puts the country in front of pressing scenarios which impose rapid, but pre-powerful movements of the Sudanese government in Khartoum, so that it is not found before facts difficult to modify later.

The Sudanese army today, and due to war equations and developments on the ground, has become the main actor of the political scene. However, the burden of state management individually, at a crucial moment like this is not fair, in addition that it is heavy with risks. The coming equations, whether in terms of national security or the relegation of international and regional alliances, require major decisions that should not be made by a single institution, regardless of how his patriotism, his strength or his confidence in him.

On the other hand, the government of the militia in Nyala continues, with regional support, to present itself as a ready political alternative, by flirting with the international community and by engaging in a speech that identifies with certain external programs.

He announced the adoption of secularism, the establishment of relations with Israel and the desire to join the “Cedaw” agreement, and even gave legal rights of homosexuals, as well as to prohibit the activity of Islamists. These advertisements are disseminated outdoors without a popular mandate, as part of the Air Mills battle aimed at acquiring external recognition and embarrassing the national government of Khartoum.

More danger, that what is happening is a systematic use of political extort tools, as the nyala government Seeks to impose Itself as a new reality through “strategic congruence” with the aspirations of Regional and International Powers, While Khartoum Finds Itself Under Increasement, It implicitly pushes to make concessions, or at least enter into a race to proven “Moderation and openness”, at the Expense of National Identity and the Sovereign Decision.

These developments put the country at a real crossroads: either the haste to form a national legislative council, national skills and societal symbols that are respected, and are able to assume historical responsibility with the army and the government, and fatal decisions give their political and historical weight. Or go to the vacuum equation which never remains empty, fills with imposed agendas and difficult facts to change later.

Waiting for the elections after three years, in the light of the imbalance of the current balance, is not a safe option. The transformations in the region do not wait, and the political vacuum will be a dangerous gap in the body of the Sudanese state, which is used in favor of the agendas which do not fill the interests or the stability of Sudan. The continuing absence of the Legislative Council, since the fall of the Bashir regime in April 2019, left the legislative authority in a state of liquidity, even after its transfer by joint meetings between sovereignty and ministers.

The training of a legislative transition council, in a consensual form, is a respected competence, societal acceptance and geographic representation, including representatives of the civil administration, the forces of peace and all the patriots, has become an urgent national necessity.

The current scene predicts the upcoming battles not only in the fields of fighting, but at the table of economic and political negotiations, because it is likely that the country is subject to regional and international pressure and extortion, targeting its strategic resources and options.

We are therefore confronted with a crossroads: either we initiate a political reality which expresses the national will and strengthens the country of potential blackmail, or we await the winds of the regional transformations to come to impose us a shameful reality.

In this context, engaging in major economic rallies such as “Brexes”, or reformulating our international security and political agreements, requires intense caliber decisions which cannot be taken without legislative political coverage which gives legitimacy and protects against rebounds.

The news reported that the political committee of the sovereign council had started real consultations to form the legislative council, with the participation of political and community forces, in order to restructure the transitional authority and to expand its base. However, the challenges are always great, starting with the dialectic of the appointment against the elections, and through the criteria that will be adopted in the selection of members, and reaching the interpretation of the term “national forces” mentioned in the constitutional document modified for 2025.

While certain forces come that the appointment is incompatible with the principles of democracy, political reality and the exceptional circumstances that the country crosses indicates that ideal solutions may not be available, and that we need realistic realistic solutions, on the basis of consensus and the guarantee of a fair representation which takes into account sensitive balances.

The training of the Legislative Council – Even if with a temporary appointment – can constitute a bridge to restore political life on its natural path. Thanks to him, the government, the promulgation of laws can be monitored, approved by agreements, and above all, strengthen confidence between political and military components during the transition period.

According to the face of the truth, the violent transformations observed in the country and the region force us to build institutions capable of protecting the national decision, and gives the State the ability to confront and negotiate a site of force, and not a low location. Our country today needs institutional legitimacy that speaks on its behalf, defends its interests and maintains the rhythm of the historic moment, before finding ourselves before a reality that we cannot tolerate.
