The eternity of Sudanese -Egyptian relations and has renewed it in time – a national murmur – ✍️ Dr Tariq Ashari

Sudanese relations -Egyptian remain one of the most complex and intertwined relations in the region, because it is not only diplomatic links between two adjacent countries, but rather an eternal relationship formulated by history, geography and common interests. The Nile, which links the arteries of life between the two countries, and the human overlapping on the border, makes this relationship a geographic and historical destiny which cannot be overcome.

However, Eternal does not mean stagnation or stability, but rather reflects the ability to renew and adapt to variables. Sudanese -Egyptian relations have gone through different stations, sometimes tension and cold due to political differences or exceptional files such as Nile borders and water, and at other times, they attend the heat and integrity motivated by common strategic interests.

At the popular level, the relationship remains renewed by nature, because large families cannot be separated from both sides of the borders, nor to stop the education, migration and trade movement which are renewed daily political accounts. At the official level, political changes in the two countries still impose an examination of the form of the relationship. After each revolution, the war or the regional crisis, Cairo and Khartoum return to the understanding table to reformulate their partnership.

The main regional challenges such as the Renaissance dam, security in the Red Sea and the fight against terrorism and irregular migration make the regeneration of the relationship a necessity and not an option, because no part can be unique to face these files without the other.

Thus, the eternal in Sudanese relations -Egyptian is not only a historic slogan, but rather a constantly renewed framework, reflecting that what brings the two peoples and the two countries is greater than what they have crossed the differences in transit. The real challenge remains the transformation of this eternal into a balanced and sustainable partnership which guarantees the interests of both parties in the present and the future

Today, Sudanese relations -Egyptian live in an important stage, because war in Sudan has put unprecedented challenges before the State and society, and forced everyone to rethink the form of external relations and their priorities. Here, the relationship with Egypt is highlighted as an eternal relationship which cannot be exceeded, but at the same time, it must be renewed in proportion to post-war reality.

Sudan, apart from a devastating struggle, needs a strategic depth of support, and a real economic, security and political partnership, and Egypt, in turn, realizes that the stability of Sudan is part of its national security. From this point of view, the relationship between the two countries becomes a renewed necessity, based on coordination in the main files such as reconstruction, border control, securing Nile water and regional threats.

But the required renewal does not mean a return to traditional models which characterized the relationship in the past, but rather require to build a balanced partnership which respects the sovereignty of Sudan and takes into account the interests of Egypt. The Sudanese citizen after the war is looking for relations that achieve concrete gains in the fields of health, education, trade and work, not just political slogans.

The next step requires Khartoum and Cairo to make the eternal base, and renewal a method, so that the historical relationship is transformed into a full project which improves stability and prevents the repetition of crises of the past. After the war, the real opportunity to build this vision, if political will and courage are available to make the right decisions. We continue to achieve characteristics (national whispers) of the relations of the people of the Nile valley, so that we can reach a future vision of the two countries
