The island’s Minister of Urban Planning reviews 2025 achievements in energy and basic services

In a presentation that reflects the state’s orientation towards sustainable solutions, the Director General of the island’s Ministry of Urban Planning and Public Services, Engineer-designate Minister Abu Bakr Abdullah, reviewed the ministry’s most notable achievements during the year 2025, highlighting the achievement of a qualitative leap in the areas of energy and basic services despite economic challenges.

The minister explained, during a press briefing held this morning in Wad Madani, that the ministry implemented nearly 300 solar energy systems that covered water stations in various localities, at an estimated cost of around 58.3 billion pounds, which helped stabilize water supply and reduce dependence on traditional energy sources.

He highlighted the installation of around 87 solar energy systems at a cost of around 330 million pounds, in addition to 74 solar systems to operate hospitals at a cost of 963 million pounds, to support the continuity of health services and improve their preparedness.

He added that the efforts included operating 47 health centers with solar energy systems at a total estimated cost of around £1.9 billion, in addition to the installation of solar systems for 8 dialysis centers, thereby improving the sustainability of vital therapeutic services.

The minister revealed the installation of 175 solar energy systems to illuminate roads, railway crossings and traffic lights, to improve road safety and increase travel efficiency in cities.

On the electricity side, he announced the rehabilitation and construction of 35 public electricity networks and generators at a cost of 6.9 billion pounds, as part of the Gezira State government’s efforts to improve the reliability of electricity supply, meet the needs of citizens and stabilize services.

The minister highlighted his ministry’s interest in capacity building, as around 160 engineers, technicians and students were trained under specialized programs aimed at developing technical skills and strengthening institutional capacities.

He highlighted that the achievements of the year 2025 embody an upward path for the Ministry of Urban Planning, as vision meets implementation and clean energy transforms into a practical pillar that illuminates facilities, stabilizes services and evolves infrastructure towards more sustainable horizons.
