The Japan Government and the United Nations Development Program is launching a project to improve food security and increasing income for displaced in the state of the Red Sea

The Japan Government and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) have today announced the launch of a new project to combat food insecurity and poverty in the state of the Red Sea in Sudan, which should benefit from more than * 60,000 people *, improving agricultural production, offering new professional opportunities and guaranteeing access to clean energy and water.
The project extends for a year and is implemented in three state localities, namely * Port Soudan, Senkat and Toukar *, with funding of * $ 1.2 million * from the government of Japan, and is implemented in partnership with the Federal Ministries and the State, National NGOs and Japanese Volunteer Center.
* Project axes: *
– Provide * training, equipment, loans * for farmers and small project owners, including women and young people.
Provide * short -term jobs * in solar energy and irrigation projects.
– Construction capacities * Local institutions and civil society organizations * to provide basic services.
Targeting more than * 300,000 displaced and refugees * fleeing the war.
* Luka Rinda *, the resident representative of the United Nations program in Sudan, stressed that * “With more than 25 million people faced with hunger, Sudan needs long -term solutions that go next to humanitarian aid. This generous contribution of the people and the government of Japan will help us to create societies that depend on them, to reduce resource -based conflicts and to reduce dependence using aid. “
* The project support includes: *
– Support * 4,000 people * of marine agriculture and fishing by providing agricultural equipment, mechanisms, contributions and training.
Provide * livestock for education and consumption of domicile * for around * 1,000 displaced * and a family supported by women.
– Grant and small villages to allow * 720 people * to start or continue their small economic activities.
Provide * temporary jobs to 2,500 young men * to create and maintain an infrastructure for solar energy and water, such as irrigation systems and street lighting with solar energy, which improves the safety of girls and women * in areas of collection of displaced communities and hosts.

For its part, * Secretary General of the Government of the State of the Red Sea, Fathallah * said that the project will be implemented in three localities in the state of ten localities *, namely * Senkat, Tokar and Port Soudan *, in order to provide means of subsistence *. He stressed that the project will contribute to the development of these localities *, expressing its thanks to the Japan government and the United Nations Development Program for this support, expressing its hope that support will extend to include * the other local localities * during the next step.
