The loss of our children is a human tragedy that requires an integrated community effort – Something for the homeland – ✍️ Mr. Salah Ghariba

Wars and disasters cast a dark shadow over human life, leaving behind countless human tragedies. Among these tragedies, the phenomenon of child loss is considered one of the cruelest, especially in light of the waves of refugees that force families to flee their homes in search of safety. The phenomenon of losing our children in Egypt, as increasing numbers of Sudanese flee war, has become a deep wound in the social fabric, requiring an integrated societal effort to address it.

May 25 each year marks “International Missing Children’s Day,” highlighting the suffering of those children who have been kidnapped or lost in difficult circumstances. This occasion reminds us of the need to intensify efforts to protect our children, particularly in light of the exceptional circumstances experienced by those fleeing the scourge of war.

There are many reasons why our children get lost, among which we cite the difficult conditions of refugee families, such as poverty and insecurity, which can force some children to leave home in search of food or work , which exposes them to risk. to get lost and lose communication. Families can lose communication with their children during the refugee journey, making the tracing process difficult if lost, and there are cases due to illegal entry into Egypt. Some people can exploit. the loss of children or their difficult circumstances to exploit them in difficult or illegal work. Some refugees may not be aware of the dangers facing their children, which may lead to neglect of certain safety measures or monitoring, and this is the general situation. case of most of our missing children in Egypt.

Awareness initiatives, such as the “ndresponse” site, provide us with valuable advice to protect our children from the dangers of getting lost, including: Safety is more important than politeness. Children must learn that their safety is more important than any driving rules. behavior and that they should not talk to strangers or ride with them, in addition to… Feelings of trust: Children should be encouraged to trust their feelings and to carefully analyze situations to determine if they represent a danger for them. how to behave when a stranger approaches them and how to deal with tricks that others may use. It is important to seriously listen to children's fears and not ignore them, as they may have valuable information about imminent danger. their children's daily routes, from school to friends or other activities, to facilitate the search process in case of loss. Children should know their full names, addresses and telephone numbers, to help them identify themselves if lost. It is important for parents to know their neighbors and friends of their children, including their names, addresses and telephone numbers, so that they can be a source of support in emergency situations.

Among the legal and psychological requirements in the event of the loss of a child or the disappearance of another child, legal procedures include the need to immediately notify the police and provide personal information about the child and their family. The competent authorities also provide psychological support to the child and his family to help them overcome this difficult ordeal.

I recommended that the Supreme Council of the Sudanese Community in Egypt consider establishing an office affiliated with the Women's Secretariat to monitor the cases of our missing or found children, and monitor the progress of their cases while providing psychological and a family orientation.
