The Ministry of Production and Economic Resources in Sinnar holds a meeting to discuss the performance report of international and national organizations for the months of March and April for the year 2024 AD.
As part of the ministry's preparations for the summer agricultural season in Sennar State, the Director General of the Ministry of Production and Economic Resources – Sennar State, the Minister in charge of Agriculture, Al-Hadi Al -Sadiq Ali, chaired the ordinary meeting. international and national organizations working in the agricultural affairs of the State, in the presence of the coordinator of the ministry's organizations, Eng. Mona Ahmed Mohamed Al-Sayyed and the director of the Technical Secretariat for Food Security, Engineer Muhammad Siddiq. The meeting discussed the performance report of supporting organizations and agencies for the period from March to the end of April 2024.
The meeting reviewed reports reflecting performance, achievements, obstacles, proposals for development and improvement, as well as increased coordination between relevant organizations and government agencies.
The meeting called for the need to take into account natural distribution areas and weather, in addition to activating agricultural extension programs to ensure food security and develop the livelihoods of the people in the region.
The director general of the ministry expressed thanks to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) for its great interest in supporting small farmers with improved seeds to increase production and productivity.
He said the agricultural process requires the concerted efforts of all, especially since the state of Sennar this season is reliable in terms of food security in light of the tensions the country is witnessing.
The Director General directed the Department of Planning and Information to develop an integrated plan for the seed distribution program and identify distribution areas to support agricultural extension programs.
While the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) revealed ongoing agreements that include the distribution of 160 tonnes of maize of the Raise Your Feet variety, targeting small farmers in the localities of Sinja and Abu Hajar, the organization confirmed that an agreement has been proposed to distribute 460 tonnes of the Raise Your Feet variety and 310 tonnes of the Tabet variety to the localities of Suki, East Sennar, Al-Dali and Al-Mazmoum. FAO said national organizations have been informed to prepare the proposal and budget.
The Plant Protection Department said that operations to combat aphids and mouse pests continue in the localities of Al-Suki, Singa, Abu Hajar, Al-Dali, Al-Mazmoum and East Sennar, and revealed that reports of night locusts have been recorded. in the Waddalnil district of the locality of Abu Hajar.
It is worth noting that the meeting took place after outcomes aimed at supporting the agricultural process, including “the development of an indicative plan for seeds from the African Humanitarian Affairs Organization to be financed by the European Union and the definition of comprehensive indicative programs. for the Mabrouka project and the Al-Wefaq agricultural project.
