The southern port is undergoing major maintenance and rehabilitation work on cranes and the installation of a new power plant.
Work is underway in the southern port to install a new power plant to solve the problems of continuous power cuts that negatively affect production operations. Civil works are underway and iron foundations are being prepared and installed to install two generators with a capacity of 3.5 megawatts each, which is an island solution to the problem of electricity supply deficiencies. The work is being carried out under the direct supervision of the Deputy Director General for Engineering Affairs, Eng. Ibrahim Youssef and Director of the General Administration of the Southern Port.
In addition, the Chinese manufacturer ZPMC, with the direct monitoring of the Director of the General Administration of the South Port, Eng. Issam Adam Bakhit, Director of the General Department of Mechanical Engineering and Management of Overhead Crane Workshops, will begin the maintenance and rehabilitation works of Crane 3 by the end of the first week of next July, after a break of almost five years.
When it is put into service, it will complement the handling equipment of the southern port.
At the same level, inspections are underway to detect defects in crane 8 until they are resolved. Mechanical engineer Muhammad Nour Hashem explained that the rehabilitation will include cranes 5 and 6. He said that he has started manufacturing special equipment for the rehabilitation in China, including gears and spare parts, hoping that this will lead to an increase in handling operations and an acceleration of production.
