Mawlana Howaida Ali Awad Al-Karim, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Justice – head of the Sudanese delegation participating in the activities of the 57th session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva, affirmed Sudan's appreciation for the mechanism universal periodic review and the need for cooperation. with it, and indicated Sudan's acceptance of the majority of the recommendations submitted by the mechanism during the consideration of its report in 2022. The number of accepted recommendations reached (244) out of a total of (283) recommendations , while he made (39) recommendations, during his meeting with the head of the Universal Periodic Review department of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Geneva, Mr. Qayyum Naqifa.
Mawlana Howaida also affirmed Sudan's efforts to advance the legislative reform agenda and harmonize laws with international and regional agreements to which Sudan is a party, as well as the need for capacity building, particularly in the area of ​​drafting. reporting, as well as the need to give the rights of vulnerable groups who are first to be cared for, such as women, children and the elderly, due attention and focus on transitional justice issues.
She also informed him of the priorities imposed by the current conditions in which the country lives, including the systematic attacks and violations committed by the rapid support rebel militia, which require the strengthening of procedural and legal systems, monitoring systems, monitoring and documentation related to human rights and international cooperation in the areas of combating crimes related to human rights and investigating gender-based violations against them. Women and girls and raising awareness of rights in these areas.
For his part, the Head of the Universal Periodic Review Department at the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, Mr. Qayyum Naqifa, praised Sudan's efforts in the area of ​​the Universal Periodic Review and expressed his understanding of the current situation in Sudan and He highlighted the great challenges he faces in fulfilling his obligations. He highlighted his cooperation with Sudan and his research into the possibility of benefiting from the support of the universal periodic review to enable it to implement the recommendations it accepted.
